The decor and styling of the dining room is distinctly Greek, specifically like one of the many coastal cities that the country is known for. Between that and the hearty portions and prompt service, Dametra Cafe sits nicely between an upscale restaurant and quick-service places.Dametra's Cafe features primarily Greek cuisine, with some Italian and Spanish thrown in for good measure. Appetizers include hummus with pita bread, fried calamari, grilled jumbo prawns and steamed mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce. We had the pleasure of having a Chanukah/Christmas lunch here and it was amazing. The meal was superb with moments of perfection; but the best part was the service. We were hosted by Sarah who made the entire experience truly exceptional. We have eaten in Michelin starred restaurants around the globe, and the service from Sarah was on par with the finest places we’ve been. Our highlights were the cheese plate, the mushroom risotto, and the pineapple polenta cake (so good), but the meal would not have been half as good without the service. Thanks for a wonderful time!

We had not been to Porta Bella in all our years coming to Carmel. We are glad we finally did. The salmon was fresh and delicious. Our server was quite competent. The atmosphere was cozy. It is a short walk to our hotel, La Playa.

Phenomenal food and good experience. For that type of restaurant I was really disappointed in the waiter. Very indifferent and way too unfriendly for that caliber of a restaurant. He didn’t try to conversant in any way or even make us feel like he valued us being there. When you eat at a high end restaurant you want to feel important and that you are in a special place. Our waiter did not give us that experience.
