Instead, you’ll need to text a special code to a number on the wall and a host will open the door and usher you inside. Rest assured, it’s worth the effort, having just won Best Regional bar in Australia 2016.Once inside, you’ll discover a moody, eclectic cocktail bar with an urban edge. Exposed brick walls and dark timber are complemented by dim lighting from vintage chandeliers. Holding fewer than 60 guests, it’s this old world ambience that sets Coal & Cedar apart from Newcastle’s bar scene.Ethan and Ryan are the team behind the venture.     Food was a standout, have been here four times and now never been disappointed. Service was a bit slow considering it wasn’t overly busy, not a big deal but more of an observation. Since when do restaurants charge $1 for a mixer to be added to a spirit? Doesn’t break the bank but an unnecessary comical charge.

    I had an amazing experience! The service was incredibly personal, everyone went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect meal. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sides were absolutely delicious. The cocktail bar is a standout too, the whole ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for any occasion. Highly recommend this place for a top-tier dining experience!

    Overall it was a good experience, it was nice day, they had a live band which was nice. The food was nice but not exceptional, the service was excellent, our waitress was fantastic, made it so much better. I would go again if I was in the area.
