Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh. Vallozzi's Pittsburgh has recently joined a mere 1,200 restaurants worldwide as a recipient of the Wine Spectator Magazine's Best of Award of Excellence and is the only Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh to receive such an honor.     We have an annual get together at Christmas every year at Eddie Merlot's. We sit in the bar area and look at the holiday tree. We told our server we were there for a leisurely dinner and he honored that. He didn't rush us at all and coursed our dinner as such. He made great recommendations and helped convinced me to trg the elk chop. It was fantastic. Everything was great until the end when we were told that parking was no longer validated. That had been in place since the restaurant opened and has been a differentiator from other steakhouses. That was disappointing.

    Totally worth it and fabulous! We had a family celebration there and it exceeded our expectations. Ten dollars for the valet service was a nice option and thankfully we had some cash on us.

    Alta Via is our favorite Pittsburgh restaurant for Italian cuisine. An extensive menu (including gluten free selections) ensure everyone will find dishes to enjoy. The food is well prepared & nicely presented. Service is attentive & friendly. Bravo!

    This is a great place for sharing small plates. The food prices are reasonable and the service is good. We appreciate the convenient location on the edge of the Cultural District -- it's easy to grab a quick meal before a concert or play.
