Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly.     This was our first time dining at this restaurant. The food was excellent, as well as the service. The owner stopped by our table to welcome us and tell us a little bit of the history of the building and the Inn. We had a wonderful experience.

    This was...an adventure :) Took my wife as a 'surprise' dinner and we were ot disappointed! I guess one MUST love pickles 'casue you pretty much get pickles from the get go Gabi - our waitress was absolutely AMAZING and the food was beyond scrumptious We had "The Pickle Experience" which included 5 different pickles for an app, 3 Parmesan & 3 Crab spears, Fried Pickles, 6 boats (Florence, Buffalo Dilly, BBQ, Chicken-Bacon Ranch, Philly Cheeserteak & Taco) Wait - if that is not 'enough' there were Fried Oreos for dessert :) 2 non-alcoholic drinks each What a FEAST!!!! We'll definitely try to go back - the only setback is that its a bit of a haul from home.
