Popoca is a Salvadoran-inspired restaurant in the heart of Oakland. Popoca means “to emit smoke” in Nawat, the language of native people of El Salvador who stoked wood fires to prepare food over a comal for their families. Revered as more than just a means of cooking, smoke represents a prayer or offering to the spirits.Popoca is a mix of heritage and play. Our food is driven by preserving past, creating something new and uniquely Oakland. After years of pop-ups, Popoca has its own digs in the Old Oakland neighborhood, where the pupusas, chicken with fermented pineapple sauce, and other Cali-Salvadoran specialties are happily devoured.

After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland. Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Miller and Lux is a great place for a very special dinner. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. My wife and I especially enjoyed the tableside preparations of the Caesar salad the the Dover sole. However, we did feel that everything here is quite overpriced.

Service was excellent from the moment we arrived. It was our first time and as we arrived and walked through the marina side and we couldn’t figure out where to check in and we were greeted and escorted by Barry one of the managers. We were early and checked in and waned to start with a cocktail. Two bar options, outside Al fresco or upstairs in a more intimate setting we choose upstairs since it was cool out. We came down after a delicious gin martini and very nice bartender and was greeted by the hosts and Barry and I asked for a romantic table for my wife and I and he gladly accommodated. Our server Treg was very personable and friendly and was great to be able to to engage with such spirit of service and makes for the dinning experience very enjoyable. Started with the fresh bread and wedge salad, excellent! The ribeye steak was delicious and on point. I asked for med-char and the mushrooms and truffle mac and cheese was …WOW! We couldn’t make up our mind about dessert and opted for Tregs recommendation the bread pudding and it didn’t disappoint and the delightful surprise was he brought us the other dessert on the house. Chocolate cake!! Decadent !! We left very impressed with the overall all experience being EPIC and look forward to coming back when we return to San Francisco in few months.

Ceron Kitchen has lived up to their reputations of the best restaurant in the island of Alameda. On Valentine's Day the owner Vicente Ceron gave individual long stem roses to all the ladies. Classy touch!👏 Chef Juan Jaquez is creative, innovation with some old school techniques. The owner Vincente Ceron is a hands on operator. Our waiter Jesus was professional, courteous and details-oriented. Recommend: calamari fritto, jumbo garlic prawns, Dungeness crab & brokaw avocado, Tomahaw steak for 2. For dessert: Paris brest, creme brulee
