Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant delivers one of the most unique and innovative dining experiences to Vancouver. Minami follows the pioneering footsteps of sister restaurant, Miku for introducing the Aburi style or flame seared technique to Vancouver’s thriving sushi scene in 2008. Aburi sushi requires no soy sauce or wasabi, as the chefs create specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to complement the flavor properties of each variety of fish.

From the kitchen, seasonal and regional ingredients are integrated into dishes to reflect the diversity of responsible food choices. Traditionally trained Japanese chefs are inspired by global flavors and cutting edge techniques to create a new style of cuisine. The culinary approach evokes passion and beauty, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware, handpicked by owner, Seigo Nakamura.

    We were there for Christmas Eve dinner and right away got a bad impression from the host who sat us. Really poor attitude. In fact, the overall vibe was that no one really wanting to be working that night so it definitely was not a festive atmosphere. Our server was nice and efficient but not overly friendly. We very much enjoyed our first dish which was the wagyu beef carpaccio. Delicious. The next two dishes made us feel slightly ill and that feeling stayed with us the rest of the night. We were disappointed in both the food and the feeling that no one really wanted to be there. We were very happy to pay the bill and leave.

    Our server Kim was absolutely delightful in getting our lunch orders and offering dish suggestions. Her diligence in service was quite extraordinary making sure we always had water and tea and all was well. We will certainly be coming back and we hope to get Kim as our server again.

    Service was great, food was great! We really enjoyed the sushi and aburi chicken for the kiddos. Definitely will return next time we're in the city!

    The bartender was great as usual, but once we moved to our table the service became terrible. We often had empty/dirty plates sitting on our table for a long time, our server didn't come by often at all so we were always waiting on a drink. One of my friends never got her drink order at all and the server also spilled water all over our table at one point (I get accidents happen but it was just the cherry on top of overall bad service).

    Delicious food and good service. Quite pricey for very small portions but we really enjoyed it.

    Fabulous experience! Our server Tracy, was amazing, thoughtful and very kind. We enjoyed the plates and sake. Always a favourite!

    The first time I went in 2022, I was impressed by the quality of food at Minami. However, this time in 2024 - the food is not as good and not worth the price.
