    The Monocle was established in 1960 and is located in a historic townhouse-circa 1885. The Federal Room can accommodate 15-65, seated and 125 for standing event. The Atrium area is semi private space for the informal event, up to 36 seated and 60 for a reception. The Wine Room is a private room that can seat up to 10 for an intimate dinner.

    My wife and I had a wonderful birthday celebration tonight thanks to the efforts of Nick and our waiter Marinos. The only shortcoming was that my steak was cooked medium instead of well done as I had ordered it. Because we were treated so well by the restaurant staff, I didn’t want to make a big deal by saying anything let alone sending it back. Still, I hope the kitchen staff will be more attentive in the future.

    Had made reservations but host (master of the house) made us wait for 10 minutes. When he showed up, he was very unpleasant and he gave no apology for making all of us wait to be seated. There was a waiter serving just water who didn’t come around to fill up our glasses. Our food was not exceptional considering the price: the vegetable pasta had a sauce that was too watery, the seafood bisque had no flavor and our steaks were simply overcooked. The cognac sauce was the only part of the meal I enjoyed. Very disappointing experience

    Fantastic is an understatement. From the drinks and starters right through to dessert, this place is an A plus! Great service and attention to every detail. Cannot recommend enough!

    Went here for dinner with good expectations based on reviews. Good vibe and interior. Started well with drinks and wine. Placed our order then nothing. 70 minutes to get our meals. My wife's and adult daughter's dishes were perfect, but my chicken dish was dried out and had been under the warming lights. I could have gotten this at Red Robin for a lot less. Then it took 30 minutes to get a check. Service was good, but the kitchen did not perform. Will not go back.

    Whether you have lived in the D.C. area for decades but have never sampled The Monocle, or you here for only a few days visit, check out this wonderfully cozy place with great food and photos on every wall of famous politicos who have dined there. And Nick, the host, will remember your name from now on!

    This is the spot if you want good food, amazing service and great ambiance. A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. It was a good Valentine’s Dinner.

    Another excellent meal the The Monocle—a gem on Capitol Hill. Calamari was fresh and a little salty, but good. The pears in the arugula salad were slices of stone, and flavorless—the biggest disappointment. The rockfish and veggies were outstanding, and the bread—as always—was excellent. The pineapple cheesecake is some of the best ever, and the service relaxed and refined.
