Monteiths bar & restaurant is nestled in a fairy-lit close in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The award winning venue is located just off the historic Royal Mile and combines chic cocktail bar with intimate restaurant. A favourite of locals and visitors alike, Monteiths is a must for relaxed dining and innovative cocktails.

Monteiths is by the team behind the White Horse Oyster Bar, and Chop House

Due to licensing restrictions Monteiths cannot accept children under the age of 5 at any time. Children aged 15 & under can be admitted until 10pm. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I had a displeasing experience just on the arrival. II made the reservation for new years evening dinner, knowing that they don’t accept kids under 5. When I got to the place, they told me that my 12y kid was not allowed on the restaurant and couldn’t get us a table. After a long time waiting for a solution, they gave us a table, but the stressful situation made the night disappoint. They should make the rules more clear and not cause an embarrassing situation telling us to find some place else

We arrived on time for our reservation and still had to wait a half hour to be sat. My husband ordered the filet and it had no flavor. We came here two years ago and it was by far some of the best experience we’ve had. This time was a disappointment.

Excellent food quality somewhat limited menu especially surprisingly limited in whisky selection… we really enjoyed the food and thought it was good value for the money. Atmosphere is nice but sort of dark… Service was good, but not enough people around for all the tables.

Monteiths in Edinburgh offers excellent service and outstanding flavors. The food was mostly exceptional, though my wife’s fish was unfortunately overcooked and a bit dry. Despite this, we had a wonderful evening, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic.

The service was excellent, food lovely, the only thing was it was a bit seafood/fish heavy. I couldn’t have a starter because it was too fish oriented. I don’t eat game either so I was a bit limited. That’s my issue though, not the restaurant’s - I had the lamb and my husband had pork belly, both of which were really lovely. I’ve been a few times and will definitely be back. I really love this restaurant.

I had Dover sole, quite small and a touch over cooked which meant drier than it should be. Cheese soufflé was delicious. Lemon posset with raspberry sorbet, raspberry was star of the show with not much lemon flavour in the posset. Spilt our wine - one of those things(?!). Service charge of 12.5%. Service was personal but once our food on the table we had to keep trying to attract attention, not much attention without us seeking attention. So, not worth 12.5% at all. Great welcome and attentive on our arrival. However, we felt the service and attention deteriorated as time progressed . To finish on a positive note, the music playing was great and staff friendly.

Warm welcome, nice ambience, venison was perfect. Good choice of food and drinks. Would recommend.
