I always have a great experience at the Moonlight Tavern. I've been coming there for years when I ski Big Sky. I love the giant fireplace and large windows that make it a pleasure to dine and watch new snow fall. The wine list is very good and the food has always been solid. I had an elk steak this last time that was superb.

Restaurant is very pretty-as it has always been. Menu is very limited these days--wedge salad was overdressed and bland. Salmon undercooked and cold. Restaurant was maybe 10% full on a high season evening yet we had to call two times and beg to add two more people to our reservation for 3. Perhaps lunchtime is the time to visit??

We were totally underwhelmed and disappointed with the food and service at moonlight tavern. I got the 48 hr short ribs expecting them to be absolutely fork tender. They were anything but that. They were tough and flavorless. The service was non existent as well.

The food is very spotty. The potato leek soup was excellent. Fondue does not belong with pretzel bits (if I had noticed that on the menu i would not have ordered it). The fondue was fine. The short ribs was fairly tasteless for short ribs and the vegetables were almost raw. I like my vegetables al dente (not soggy) but these were a far cry from that. The smoled trout fritters has excellent batter but the filling was tasteless. Without the menu I could not have recognized it as trout.

In a snow storm we could not see the signs directing us to the restaurant, and drove about aimlessly on deserted roads, only to hit ice on a hill and slide into a deep snow bank, where we were hopelessly stuck. Called the restaurant, which despatched a truck with a truly noble security guy who found us, dug us out and towed us back onto the road, then led us to the restaurant. Needed the Bourbon while perusing the menu. By the time we (a party of 5) arrived, the restaurant was not crowded, and we had a uniformly enjoyable meal, complemented by 2 Big and saturnine Syrahs.

Wow! We get like we had struck out by eating at Big Sky mountain village, and were fortunate to find this place. They were great to our kids and the overall setting was wonderful. We will definitely be back.

Cozy, beautiful setting on the mountain. Great family dinner after a long ski day. Nice kids' menu/activity book. Service was excellent, food great. Portions are huge, consider sharing. Guitar player is a nice touch, but was way too loud - we could barely hear each other and were thankful when he took a break. Overall great spot!

Enjoyed our meal during a day of skiing. Was a very comfortable spot with fantastic windows to stare out at the peaks above. Menu was a bit sparse but the options were great. Would recommend and will return.
