Located on the grounds that housed the former Royal Dutch Shell Research facility, new apartments and condos began springing up in 2007—and the plan is for a whole new realm of commercial, retail and cultural spaces, with complimentary restaurants and cafes to feed this rapid growth. While the eateries are still a bit limited, you can stop in for a burger or some tasty small plates before checking out an art house movie theatre of the Amsterdam tower—the view from the top is unmissable, even in the snow.
