   My wife and I dined here last night and had a mixed experience that left us with a sour taste despite the good food. First, the positives: Our server was excellent - attentive, thoughtful, and went the extra mile by splitting our salad without being asked. The food itself was quite good, and we were enjoying a relaxing meal. Unfortunately, the hospitality management completely undermined our experience. Despite arriving early for our reservation, we were seated 10 minutes after our scheduled time. The hostess practically sprinted ahead of us to our table, pointed at our seats (which still had bread crumbs on them), and rushed off without a word. The most appalling part came as we were finishing our meal and enjoying our coffees. I briefly went to the restroom, and upon returning found the hostess speaking with my wife, telling her we needed to leave because a large party had arrived. The hostess made no attempt to be discreet or apologetic - she bluntly informed my wife that they needed our table immediately for a group that had checked in at 6:10 pm, as if our dining experience was simply an inconvenience to their schedule. This is completely unacceptable for several reasons: 1. Had we been seated on time for our reservation, this wouldn't have been an issue 2. Other diners who were seated before us were still enjoying their meals (our reservation was at 4) 3. Our entrees took longer than expected to arrive 4. Why should we have to compromise our dining experience because of their seating mismanagement? 5. The prices we paid certainly don't reflect being rushed out the door For a restaurant charging these prices, the hospitality management needs serious improvement. Our server deserves praise, but we're hesitant to return given this was not our first negative experience with the hostess staff. Dining out should be a pleasure, not an exercise in being made to feel unwelcome.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

   Normally we have excellent meals and excellent service. This time was an off day and nothing seemed to be going right. The manager stepped in and made everything right.

   If you’re looking for an old school SF institution experience this is a good start. Reservations needed unless you’re willing to wait for a table. Decent food and service. Loud. A little hard carrying on a conversation with a larger party (8). Most of our meals were delicious although the Joes Burger sandwich was way over salted. Unedible. A one off I’m sure.
