Our story starts in the Indian valley of Kashmir. We are three generations who have been in the restaurants and hotels field. My grandfather started his humble beginnings at the Cecil Hotel in Shimla in the late 1930s; my father also joined the trade at Hyatt Hotels, from which he migrated us from India to Australia.Then I, Ankit, decided to open my own restaurant. Having been in the hospitality industry for the past decade, I learned from the great chefs of Australia and brilliant hotel proprietors, gathering all the knowledge and experience from previous generations. We bring the taste of Indus to Melbourne in the name of Bombay On Bay.

Since November 2018, Fitzroy’s Gertrude Street has been home to ISH, a lively, inventive Indian restaurant. Serving up contemporary Indian cuisine, the restaurant’s ethos is rooted in the liminal: its inspirations both traditional and modern, its flavours both familiar and surprising, its spirit both global and local. It serves to represent, through food, the dynamism that so defines modern-day India. ISH is Indian-ish, yes, but also Australian; modern-ish, yes, but also classic. In short, it delivers what can only be described as ‘unexpected India.’

Backed by travel and research every few months we pick a new region from India to explore and discover new hyper regional cuisine. This season we are cooking Parsi menu, a delightful blend of Persian and Gujarati flavors, reflecting the rich heritage of the Parsi community that migrated to Gujarat hundred’s of years ago to call India their home. Characterised by its use of fragrant spices, dried fruits, and a balance of sweet and tangy flavors, Parsi dishes are both unique and comforting. Parsi food often features an interplay of textures and flavors, with influences from their Persian roots and adaptations to local Indian ingredients, creating a culinary experience that’s both diverse and distinctive. We are cooking some traditional celebratory dishes to popular Parsi Cafe dishes on our Parsi Menu.Please note our next menu change is in March 2025. We cater for all dietary requirements.     Absolutely beautiful. We love Indian food but this was next level. A very special way to spoil my husband for his birthday. There were 5 of us, they sat us at a round table, we could hear each other easily, even grandma could hear. Beautifully designed place, & service was excellent. We loved it!

    ISH offers an exceptional dining experience that merges Indian fusion cuisine with a warm, inviting ambiance. From the moment you enter, you’re greeted by the friendly staff who ensure every detail is perfect. The menu is a delightful fusion of local Indian ingredients and global culinary techniques. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously prepared to tantalize the taste buds. The Zucchini flower bhaji was so unique and flavourful. For the main course, Paneer makhanai and Butter Chicken were beautifully cooked and served with soft black garlic naan. The in-house made Paneer was a game changer. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and comfort. ISH is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

    The meals were substatial and tasty. The Thali was super and so was the Chicken 65 as well as all the other dishes. The service was great the friendly staff always there to help in any way.. The ambience was soothing just needed that music to make it a bit more lively.
