If you go beyond the wooden benches and beer crates out front of Nakano Darling's ever-changing facade, you might feel like you've stepped into a different world in Tokyo. This place is where Suntory whiskey, sake, sochu, umeshu, and beer are freely flowing, and Japanese is spoken all around. It's a spot where anyone who loves good booze and delicious food could easily lose themselves for entire nights if not days. Nakano Darling represents everything that makes the izakaya, or humble 'stay-drink-place', such a central and beloved part of Japanese culture. Of course, you'll find all the food and drink favourites here (think homemade gyoza, karaage chicken, and whisky cocktails), but it's about more than just that. It's about the experience.

Best sushi that I have had in Sydney. Had a great lunch there and tried a couple of different sake/Nihonshu to go with it. Chef Jiho’s “omakase” choice of sushi, each piece is carefully crafted. He is passionate about what he creates. Will go back for sure; want to try the dinner course too.

An authentic Japanese restaurant reflecting the many fine meals we enjoyed in that country. Inspiring food and great ingredients, freshly prepared and presented with flair. The Spanner Crab Chawanmushi was a stand out, as was the range of yakitori and the yuzu coconut icecream for dessert. All washed down with a sparkling lychee spritz!

Great experience for my wife and daughter. Our first go at an omakase restaurant and we were delighted with the careful and mindful approach to dining. The overall menu experience was curated to flow between textures and tastes. Some very premium ingredients that we haven’t tried before, like chunks of abalone that have been steamed for many hours and then fried like tempura and toro, blue fin tuna from Japan that was cured for 2 weeks, amazingly good.
