Bad Idea is East Nashville's buzziest new restaurant from Sommelier Alex Burch and Executive Chef Colby Rasavong. It was honored as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in America in 2024 by the New York Times. New York Times food writer Brett Anderson remarks “Bad Idea may well be what many seasoned diners thought when they heard there was a wine bar specializing in envelope-pushing Lao food opening inside an East Nashville church. But given the level of cooking here, the name turned out to be a self-aware joke, rather than aself-own…[Rasavong] invests the weight of his life experience in food that stretches the boundaries ofSoutheast Asian cooking to the edge of Appalachia. Our kitchen is open 5-10pm, 7 days a week. 21 + after 8pm.We always recommend booking a reservation for your party, however we do have limited walk-in availability! For parties greater than 4 people, call ahead, our seating for large parties is very limited. We have a 15 minute grace period for late parties.     Our service and dinner was AMAZING!!! Kensington is possibly the best server we have ever had anywhere! She was over the top wonderful! We loved all the dishes we tried and we tried many! Kensington knew so much about every item on the menu and gave us wonderful recommendations. Thank you so much!

    This was my 2nd visit to the restaurant after we had raved about it the last time we were in Nashville. It did not disappoint. As last time, everything was exceptional from cocktails to our server, Ian. The food is consistently excellent, and the ambiance is perfect. Thank you guys for another great experience! I’ll be back next time I’m in Nashville!

    This continues to be our favorite wine bar in Nashville! If you want a quieter experience, visit during the week. If you want a more lively atmosphere, try Friday or Saturday nights when there’s usually live music! Either way Alex and Phillippine are so warm and friendly and welcoming, and the wine and food are *chef’s kiss*!!!
