The oldest family run restaurant in London. Spanning 6 decades and three generations, Il Portico Restaurant on Kensington High Street has been cooking regional Italian specialities since it was first opened in the 1960"s by acclaimed chef Pino Chiavarini. Still managed to this day by the same family, siblings James and Francesca draw heavily from their roots, providing simple, authentic Italian food from their home region of Emilia Romagna and beyond. Whilst the family are always on hand to welcome you in, our Executive chef, Eduardo (currently in his 25th year of service with us) concentrates on slow, homemade dishes with a sense of history and provenance.

His food is exceptional, honest and British, with the global influences Pat has gathered throughout his career littered throughout his menu. One of the headline dishes is the Mitre original braised rabbit pappardelle, but not to be missed are Pat’s specially selected cuts of Scottish beef - from none other than renowned butcher John Gilmour - which he expertly grills on his Japanese-style Robata. The brand-new menus will be devised of a sensational food selection including unmissable Sunday Roasts and contemporary seafood dishes. The food in the restaurant will be timeless, whilst the brand-new bar is the perfect spot for an exceptional pint and a light bite to eat.

'The Crabtree, with its spectacular position downstream from The River Cafe, has a huge sprawling garden, a glazed colonnade and frontage on to theThames shaded by a weeping willow. The prawns in chilli hot oil and the toastspread with tomatoes and onions were good, so much so we ordered themagain when we returned for Sunday lunch. Sunday roasts with 'all thetrimming's' - we tried beef and pork - had everything a Sunday roast shouldhave. Somewhere rather spiffing to go' (Fay Machsler, Evening Standard)

La Palombe is a new neighbourhood bistro from restaurateur James Chiavarini (also of Il Portico) & chef patron Jake Leach (previously head chef at the three Michelin starred The Ledbury).A large wood burning grill takes center stage where the majority of the dishes are cooked over live embers. James & Jake work together every shift to serve dishes with a real sense of terroir and provenance, including our speciality of wild foods foraged ourselves. Expect wild noisette venison, Wiltshire truffles (thanks to our house truffle dog Alba!), rare woodland mushrooms, and much wonderful produce from our small organic farm in Kent. The wine list is sourced entirely from independent producers, and regularly updated with a specialised focus on low intervention, natural and biodynamic wines. We are across the road to the Design Museum & Holland Park, a 10 minute walk from Kensington Olympia and a short distance to the Royal Albert Hall.

Please feel free to get in touch – bookings are advisable for dining in the evening or weekend lunches – or just drop by for an early evening drink whenever you fancy. We hope to see you soon.

I read multiple "poor" and "terrible" reviews on TripAdvisor that I almost cancelled my reservation. I am so delighted that I proceeded undeterred. My two dinner guests and I had a fabulous time. Great, attentive service by management and staff of many different nations. No request was too much with the food and drinks orders. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals: I am of a disposition where I have little or no interest in photographing a meal serving plate, so no visual evidence. I would not hesitate to return to Smith's Bar & Grill. Yes, the toilets are clean too.

Our 5th visit to the Mitre in a couple of years although this time just the two of us. Fantastic food and friendly & helpful staff. It was busy & as the weather was nice the outside was busy too which meant there was an occasional smell of cigarette smoke which drifted inside. That said, we will be be back next time we staying in Kensington.
