The food was mostly fairly good, but not brilliant, and maybe not good value for the price. We had croquettas and prawn/calamari as a starter. The croquettas were fine, and served with a lovely pickle and red pepper hummus. The “crispy prawn and calamari” had one prawn and the rest was calamari, but were well made and presented with a nice dip. My chicken schnitzel was nice, if maybe a little under-seasoned and served with half a gem lettuce draped in what was billed as Caesar salad sauce, but I could hardly taste any garlic, mustard, or anchovy. It was just creamy and a bit sickly. However, the most unpleasant part was my wife’s spicy chicken thigh kebab, which had been marinated in far too much salt and was almost inedible. The service was good and the beer was well-kept.

I booked a table for 4 people. There was 3 of us, and a pram (newborn baby so won’t be eating). I’ve eaten in the pint shop plenty of times and seen prams at a number of the tables in the dining room.. but when we arrived I was told that I hadn’t put anything on the booking about a pram, and there was a specific “pram table” which was taken, but they could move us upstairs (with no lift) so we would have to carry a pram and a newborn up the stairs - he’s 2 weeks old so I couldn’t put him in a high chair, etc. She then checked again and the table taking the “pram table” were leaving and we could sit there. The weird thing was, when we got in the dining room only one table was occupied.. the room was empty and a pram would have absolutely fitted by many tables (if you slightly moved the table). I just found all of this really bizarre considering the room was empty with little bookings (open table showed lots of availability), also considering this is a local for me and I’ve eaten here many times and always seen prams at a number of the tables.. was just very strange. It kind of put us off, but throughout the visit the service from the waitresses was fabulous and the food was incredible as always. Will be visiting again but I think if a specific table has to be assigned if you have a pram, it could be worth adding this to your booking form.

Our food turned up before our drinks, in fact, our bottle of wine turned up as we were finishing our mains. Hugely apologetic, but too many people crammed in, and not enough glasses to serve wine, or people to stay on top of things. Food was ok.

I like the pint shop. It's got good beers, nice ambience, decent food. Once upon a time it had the best steaks in Cambridge. That's not true any more. Not even close. Cost seems to have propelled them down weird steak routes, and the old, delicious, rib eye is ancient history. They now offer a middling flat iron in a nice peppercorn sauce. It's ok but it's not a proper steak.
