   Repeat customers. Summary: Food was outstanding with creative flavors. Service was rather disorganized; appeared to have more Chiefs than Indians .Atmosphere was lively and very loud, however the Mariachi show was mediocre at best- poorly designed and executed. Prices are high, but most good restaurants in Cancun are following the same pattern.

   We were seated at a lovely area outside, however, many diners were smoking, which we were not made aware of ahead of time. Since the restaurant had communicated to us several times about our reservations, I wish there would have some mention of this. It is very challenging to enjoy a nice dinner with cigarette smoke in our faces the whole time. Additionally, while they asked several times about a food allergy I had, they were not particularly accommodating or knowledgeable. The food I did get was just a salt bomb. The manager tried his best to make things right- like offering a dessert, none of which I could eat, and then finally bringing something, walking away, and then returning a few minutes later to make sure I knew that I could not eat it.

   My wife and I returned to Porfirios after missing it last year and loved the renovations and as always, the food! We started with the Tuna Tostados and as entrees the Sea Bass and Braised Shirt Rib - both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The renovated restaurant is elegant with a modern motif; right on the waterfront with every table having a great view! The Mariachi band playing to more current popular music was a special, high energy treat! On the negative side the DJ’s music was just a touch too loud and our wait staff team was dragged down a bit by the seeming detachment from Alex who could have been more engaging and interested in connecting with us, something that we ordinarily experience whenever we dine out in Cancun. Ivana was terrific - she was engaged and interested in us having a special night for our 47th anniversary. We will be back and highly recommend Porfirios when in Cancun!

   Unfortunately it wasn’t a good experience for me. It was my partner’s birthday and I made a note twice on my reservation that I want a birthday cake at the end for the dessert. Our dinner finished and I waited. There were lots of birthday surprises there but nothing for my partner. I went to hostess and told her and she checked my res and said they will bring it. We ordered dessert sat for a long time. Nothing happened it was so disappointing that I whispered into manager’s ears while we were walking out. He stopped us and invited us to a shot at the bar and said we are sorry in front of my partner. I didn’t want him to realize this mess. He wanted to make this up but hospitality is different with service. The food was amazing the cocktails were not that great. We asked for a table next to water they didn’t give us. Im just giving this 2 because of the food. I really wanted to surprise my partner and it was so bad that I didn’t get him a cake
