Experience Casual Elegance at 1931 in Cincinnati's Historic Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel

Tucked away in downtown Cincinnati's iconic Hilton Netherland Plaza, the 1931 invites you to dine in sophisticated style. This art deco jewel evokes the glamour of a bygone era with its soaring painted ceilings, marble columns, and Rookwood pottery. While the setting transports you back in time, the cuisine is decidedly modern, with American fare and creative cocktails.

The versatile menu features breakfast classics like fluffy pancakes and savory eggs benedict. Lunch brings soups, salads, and sandwiches, while dinner tempts with dishes like Citrus-Glazed Salmon, Peppercorn-crusted Ribeye, and Pappardelle & Braised Beef Short Rib Ragout.

Whether you're seeking breakfast, lunch, or romantic dinner, the 1931 excellent service ensures a memorable experience. Its proximity to the convention center, theatres, and stadiums is also a convenient pre-event spot for a bite and cocktails.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
1931 offers a stunning art deco setting that enchants visitors. Guests appreciate the "fantastic food" and "excellent service" from standout servers. While some diners reminisce about its former glory as Orchids, the ambiance and live music continue to impress. However, service inconsistencies and buffet value are noted areas for improvement.

We had a 4:00 reservation but had to wait more than a half hour in line, which put a damper on our celebration mood. The ambience is wonderful though (it was our first experience), so once seated, we quickly got the holiday vibe back, helped along by the live jazz harkening back to the deco times of the sumptuous surroundings. The food was served mostly from separate stations based on a theme, fresh shrimp/seafood, salads, breads/rolls, cheese, charcuterie board, a panoply of desserts, etc. These stations were supplemented graciously by sliver steam table offerings with lids that kept the side dishes (e.g., mashed potatoes, pasta, green beans, stuffing, etc) and some meat dishes (e.g., chicken marsala, beef bourguignon, etc) warm for your plate. Best of all was a carved meat station with two carvers serving up freshly sliced roast beef to your specifications (rarest of rare to well done), as well as ham and turkey for those who wanted it. The roast beef was outstanding! Much to our surprise at a Thanksgiving feast, the most disappointing offering was the freshly sliced turkey! Processed, saline infused, and shaped into a round, it tasted little like the savory roast you can do for yourself at home. So skip that and go for the beef. Roast a turkey for the family on the weekend while you remember the fun of feasting out on all the other great offerings at 2031 on Thanksgiving.

We went to 19311 for the Thanksgiving buffet and it was an excellent experience. The food was amazing in its variety and flavor, the room is a special place and will make a great memory. Our young server was also a great representative of your restaurant and would enjoy his service again.

Our Thanksgiving dinner at 1931 was excellent. The food choices for that day were excellent. Also the waiters and waitresses were great. The time it took to be seated when we arrived was minimal.

The atmosphere in the stunning art deco interior is a huge draw. The service was personable and attentive. The food was average. It’s the first time back at the Thanksgiving buffet since 2019 before Covid killed the prior excellent restaurant. 1931 is its replacement and they have work to do on quality.

We went for the Thanksgiving buffet. We were not seated in the georgous main dining area but rather in one of the adjacent, but still grand, ballroom/meeting room spaces. This was okay as it was much less crowded and less noisy. Food: Very good to excellent for a buffet with more choices than you could eat in a month. The fresh oysters were a nice bonus on top of a wide variety of American favorites plus carving stations, etc. Servers were a little stressed as it seemed a little overbooked (I went to the bar for alcoholic bevies as it was so much easier). Table service for water, coffee, juice, etc., was just fine. Expensive: Yes,@ 90 USD/pp but also enjoyable and satisfying. Conclusion: It was a real treat to once again visit this magnificent Art Deco masterpiece hotel/restaurant. We are ready to book for Christmas dinner . . .
