Welcome to the award-winning Barn Brasserie. Our stunningly-restored 500 year-old Grade Two listed restaurant has a reputation for excellent food, fantastic service and amazing value. Tucked away in the picturesque rolling north Essex countryside, and yet just five minutes from the main A12 close to Colchester, the Barn is open seven days a week serving light lunches and dinner. Had afternoon tea at The Barn with a friend , we both had a lovely afternoon and great value for money. Will defiantly be going again .

A friend bought a Champagne afternoon tea for my husband and I for our joint birthday. Having booked at a time that was offered to us, it was very disappointing to have to wait at least 10 minutes for them to find us a table and set it up for us. The setting is lovely and the champagne was delicious.

We are regulars at The Barn but this our first time having afternoon tea which was underwhelming. Waitress didn't identify what the sandwiches were (or cakes for that matter) extra charge for coffee, had to ask for bill then when no one came to collect payment went to pay at desk. Sandwiches dry & tasteless, cakes okay, nothing special and very small serving but ok for price I guess. Not up to the usual standard.

Even though this is a large venue there’s a lovely ambiance, with a cosy feel. The service was fantastic, with regular refills for our afternoon tea. Will definitely be back again soon

We had a very enjoyable afternoon cream tea, which was a retirement gift from our daughter and her partner. The service and the food was excellent and our waiter (think he might've been the head waiter?) made sure that we were enjoying our food and that we had enough tea to drink. This isn't our first time here as my sister-in-law had her 60th birthday celebration meal here. Would definitely come again.

Very good tea, would like a choice of sandwiches, very good ambience,not very busy, only people for tea.

I took my friend for Afternoon Tea last weekend here for her birthday and was very disappointed. We had both visited previously for dinner and had a lovely meal and experience so was very disappointed to find the complete opposite when we visited for dinner - even more so that it was for a special occasion. We arrived and was seated straight away but no-one then come to see us for approx twenty minutes. We then got offered our drinks, which arrived with our afternoon Tea about fifteen minutes after. We stayed for nearly two hours and never saw another employee. No-one checked that our food was okay, or offfered us another drink, or an alternative. We didn't get a top up of tea and the afternoon Tea selection was awful. The smallest Afternoon Tea I've ever had and was not worth the price I paid. I'm so disappointed as loved coming here for dinner but would not recommend for afternoon Tea. Not what I expected for a high class restaurant.
