Excellent food, well paced plates. My only disappointment was my wife and I were still really hungry when complete. We’re not big people either, had to order several more plates after the already very expensive meal.

The Omakase experience was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every bite, normally I don’t care for one or two dishes at Omakase but not here. My only note is for those of us who get anxious easily. The 8:30 PM Omakase can be rough as they are closed and at no fault to the restaurant, you may feel rushed but they absolutely are not rushing you, just cleaning.

Being from Vancouver and having been lucky enough to visit New York 2-3 times per year, I am used to eating amazing sushi. I also love omakase because it is a chance for me to enjoy a chef’s creativity.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Akikos. The quality of the fish was decent, but not great. For a $255 omakase, I expected more flair in the presentation and flavors. I had moderate to high expectations since some online reviews were positive. However, the dishes were very bland, especially the nigiri. No wow factor at all. The only item that stood out in a good way was the Shokupan (milk bread with toro and caviar).
Now, my main complaint. The service was extremely underwhelming and frankly it really turned me off. If I could give 0 stars for service, I would. The hostess at the front desk was cold. No smile and instead she exhibited an attitude. She seemed annoyed that she needed to bring me to my table. My sushi chef (Jason) was the same and did not even crack a smile for the entire evening. There were other chefs around me who were chatting it up with the patrons. Not this chef. It really appeared that he did not want to be there. There were customers sitting next to me who were nicer and friendlier than the servers!
I do not recommend this restaurant and will not return here when I am back in San Fran in the future. Spend your $255 elsewhere. There are many good places to eat in the city and Akikos is definitely *not* one of them.
