   Ala says on the menu that the food is not traditional dishes, so keep that in mind when you read my review. Maybe we picked the wrong dishes. The brussels sprouts were tasty but very salty. The shrimp sat in a layer of oil that did not add flavor to the dish. You can find much better, Mediterranean food in DC . There is zero ambience in the room off to the left of the restaurant, but the area by the bar looked more cosy and lively. The noise level is fine for conversation. The service was fine. I review a fair number of restaurants and generally give great reviews.

   The food and service was great. Unique dishes that were very well prepared. They were able to accommodate my wife’s soy allergy without a problem. The location a short walk from the DuPont Circle Metro station is a plus.

   I first visited Ala for lunch while waiting for my wife to complete here dental appointment. I was so impressed; I made a reservation for our 30th anniversary. The food was fantastic. In fact, my wife said the humus was the BEST that she has ever tasted.

   One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in long time! Food was superb, authentic,flavorful, freshly prepared, attention to detail.. loved every bite. We ordered one cold plate, one hot plate & one large plate which was plenty for 2 people. We appreciated peaceful music while we ate !! - Ala experience was unlike the typical “ have to shout to hear you” kind of place most restaurants serve up today. Server was lovely sweet & attentive. 100% recommend.

    We had a lovely lunch. They were willing and able to accommodate a vegan and someone with lactose and gluten tolerance who were sharing plates.
