I was very disappointed with my overall experience at Alo. My expectations were very high, which didn't help. Nonetheless I found it to be overhyped and not worth the money.
First I wanted to reserve a table for 4, but one of us had allergies, which they wouldn't accomodate, which I found special for a Michelin Star restaurant. But oh well.. we still made reservation but for only 2 because we really wanted to try.
The decor is clean but nothing remarkable, seemed like any other chic restaurant. Overall ambiance was too 'strict' is the way I would describe.
The food... was very good. But the wine pairing brought it down a notch. Unremarkable wines for every service, at 135$ per person made it feel like a ripoff. All the wines were described like light, to make the food shine. It meant no character wines, that for half the courses tasted nothing, and the other half made the food taste worse.
If the price was lower I'd be probably less critical, but the overall value for the money isn't there, and I have been and will go again in restaurants at this price range, just not this one. Ever.
Would not recommend, spend your money elsewhere, the food scene in Toronto is vast.
