Sitting at the bar was an awful experience as we had to engage with the bartender who decided he was part of our twosome. The lights from the street were so glaring. It was so uncomfortable to sit there to try to eat. Why the restaurant decides that no light is a good way to eat food that you’re supposed to see to appreciate the beauty of what the chef created is beyond me. The ambience was absolutely awful. I would never recommend the restaurant and I don’t think the food was really bad but taken together it made the experience not one that I would recommend for a Michelin star

This was my second time dining at The Bar at Alo. It would be hard to imagine a better meal. The service is impeccable, the food is unforgettable, the wine pairing exemplary. Each bite is a taste sensation of its own. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant.

The service at Alo was very, very good and seamless between wait staff. It’s a welcoming spot but they could dial back the A/C a few degrees as it was a little chilly on Oct 25. That said the food is exceptional from the variety, complexity, subtlety and of course, the presentation. The wine pairings were wineries that were new to us but superb. The Greek red was so delicious with the lamb, and was the best wine of the evening, something that provided a pleasant surprise. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a memorable experience and lasting memories.

I went to Alo last year, and had high expectations for it. This year, still great, but didn’t meet my expectations. The food is quality but not exciting, the service is ok.

Our dining experience was 10/10. The food is a true art form with the most unique flavours I’ve ever tasted. The bar area was a bit dark and the ambiance wasn’t as great as we expected. Next time we’ll be back to sit in the dining room.

Everything was fantastic. The A5 supplement was defintely a standout as well as the raspberry dessert. The only critique I have is that the tables were a bit small especially when the bread course was fit into the mains.

FAQs

Yes, Alo Restaurant – The Bar is a terrific choice for a special date night. Guests repeatedly praise the six-course tasting menu, inventive cocktails and impeccable, attentive service that make evenings feel memorable. Expect an elegant, intimate atmosphere suited to celebrations and romantic dinners; many guests specifically recommend the tasting menu and wine pairings. Note: bar seating can be tight and a bit dim/backlit for some, so request a quieter spot or the main dining room if ambiance/lighting is a priority.

Portions lean toward tasting-menu, fine-dining sizes, quality over quantity. Guests frequently describe the six-course tasting as satisfying but intentionally small; some diners recommend ordering add-ons if you have a larger appetite. A few guests left still hungry after the set menu, while many felt the six-course format was just right. If you’re particularly hungry, consider supplements or à la carte additions.

Alo Restaurant – The Bar is open Tuesday through Saturday evenings from 5:00 pm to 12:00 am. Because their service focuses on an evening tasting menu and cocktails, make reservations for dinner service and confirm holiday hours ahead of time, as special events (like TIFF) can affect availability.

For a special, full experience go for an evening tasting menu on a weekday (Tuesday–Thursday) when it’s likely calmer. Guests love the dinner service and wine pairings; weekends and festival periods (TIFF) can be busier and louder. If you prefer the bar vibe, book earlier evening bar seating or request a table in the dining room for a quieter, better-lit experience.

The atmosphere is polished and elegant, classic fine-dining with creative, artful plates. Guests frequently praise the attentive, almost theatrical service and the lively cocktail program. Note that the bar area can feel dim/backlit and sometimes a bit loud; music volume and lighting have been called out by several guests. Overall the vibe is upscale and memorable, ideal for celebrations and date nights.

The dress code is business casual. Guests typically dress smartly for the Michelin‑starred dining experience, think neat, polished attire suitable for a special evening out rather than casual streetwear.

Yes, Alo is known to accommodate dietary needs and special requests. Guests report the team handled food allergies with no hassle and will swap menu items when asked. For seating, celebrations or private‑party needs, call ahead so staff can arrange seating, substitutions or menu accommodations to ensure a smooth evening.

Families do dine here and guests celebrate birthdays with children and teens, but Alo is focused on a refined tasting-menu experience rather than casual family dining. There’s no mention of a kids’ menu, if you’re bringing younger children, consider an early seating, a private room, or call ahead to discuss menu flexibility and any special arrangements.

While Alo welcomes walk-ins, it’s often busy and popular, many guests mention that reservations can be hard to get during peak times. The team likely maintains waitlists for busy evenings and special events (TIFF), so make a reservation in advance or call on the day to check for availability or walk-in seating.

Busiest: weekend evenings, festival periods (TIFF) and peak dining hours, guests report a lively, sometimes loud environment then. Quietest: earlier weekday nights (Tuesday–Thursday) or earlier dinner seatings tend to be calmer. If you want a more intimate, quieter meal, aim for weekdays or request a table in the dining room rather than the bar.

Weekdays (Tuesday–Thursday) are typically the best choice for a quieter, more relaxed experience. The restaurant operates Tue–Sat evenings, so a midweek dinner can mean less bustle and better chances for specific seating. If you want the lively bar scene, a weekend evening will deliver that energy, but expect noise and a fuller room.

Yes, the restaurant allows private parties and accepts large bookings. Guests often book Alo for celebrations and special occasions; call the team to discuss private‑dining options, group menus, and seating arrangements to tailor the experience for your event.

Public holiday hours are not specified in the provided information. The Bar at Alo’s standard hours are Tue–Sat 5:00 pm–12:00 am; for public holidays or special-event closures (TIFF or other), call the restaurant or check their official site before planning your visit.

Yes, Alo has earned multiple prestigious accolades, including MICHELIN 1 Star (2022–2025) and high rankings on lists like Canada’s 100 Best and the World’s 50 Best. These awards reflect consistent recognition for food, service and overall dining experience.
