Despite the name, Angel Curry Centre in London’s Islington in Chapel Market is actually a small and perfectly-formed modern Indian restaurant. Short on neither competition nor regulars, the Angel Curry Centre’s great success is based on excellent, well-presented food at very attractive prices. All your favourites are here on the menu like chicken tikka masala and chicken dupiaza. Side and vegetarian dishes easily match the high standard of the meat dishes. And here’s another pocket-friendly aspect of Angel Curry Centre restaurant: YOU ARE YOU WELCOME TO BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND THERE IS NO CORKAGE CHARGED. Yet there’s no rowdiness, the tables of 30 to 50 year olds causing nothing more than a healthy buzz. Angel Curry Centre’s fans are legion and full of praise for the super Indian cuisine, the bubbling atmosphere and the friendly service and, who knows, after dining at this charming restaurant, you may find yourself a new convert

Food was excellent and well priced. I had no complaints at all and was discussing returning for more soon. That was until it came to paying. Our bill was cheap, 31.50 for two of us and we were nice and full. I asked to pay by card and asked to put the payment up to 35 to give a tip. The waiter looked at me and said, “Haven’t you just got cash for the tip?” I replied that I rarely carry cash and would like to just add the amount onto the card payment. I then entered the 3.50 into the gratuity section and proceeded to pay. I went to hand the device back and it was snatched from my hand to where I almost accidently pulled my card out of it. I was then told “I don’t get those tips, I can only keep tips in cash”. All of this was done in an incredibly rude manner. I paid a tip after all, and I now wish I hadn’t. I won’t be going back if that is the attitude you have towards well meaning customers. It’s a shame because we really enjoyed the food and the experience right up until the very last interaction. Have words.

Staff was friendly and very attentive, and the food was great. The paneer tikka masala was particularly excellent. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem - what it lacks in ambiance, it more than makes up for with great good, friendly service, and excellent value. Will absolutely be back!

Warm friendly service and a good taste experience. The bill at the end is always surprisingly good value.

Having eaten at Angel Curry Centre several times previously - and recommended it to others - I was looking forward to dining again. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to my expectations this time. The service was generally poor (the server was being evasive about the availability of their set menu) and the food not up to previous standards - small portions and presentation lacking. A real shame.

Angel Curry Centre with their great value for money 5 courses meal and BYO for £9.95. No corkage charged for the bottle of wine. I wouldn't technically class it as a 5 course meal, but more a glorified 2 course meal, with some complimentary extras such as poppadom with pickles, rice or nan bread and a vegetable side dish. Still a fab deal! The menu for this deal has a more limited range of choices of mostly standard fare. Chicken Tikka was fine with a very sweet sauce. But the Prawn Sag Curry was rather delicious with smooth, medium strength spinage and went very well combined with the Okra dish. Could have been hotter as I'd asked for madras strength. Certainly a more subtle taste for the tastebuds as far as curry houses go.

Although not in a particularly nice location (we arrived as the market was closing early saturday evening) - don't be put off! The great food and very friendly staff made this a veryenjoyable meal. The 5 courses for 10 quid is very good value, especially as it is BYOB. We struggled to find room to fit it all in (but just about managed!)
