Welcome to BEHIND. We are an intimate 1 Michelin star fish-focused tasting menu restaurant run by chef Andy Beynon. Situated on the edge of London Fields, Hackney, BEHIND has 18 kitchen-table seats for lunch and dinner sittings, as well as a relaxed wine bar.

BEHIND is Andy Beynon’s first restaurant, opened in October 2020. After just 20 days’ trading it was awarded its first Michelin Star. Andy spent 15 years working in some of the best Michelin star restaurants in the country, including with chefs Claude Bosi, Phil Howard and Michael Wignall.

From the venue to the quality of the dishes, everything in the experience shows the passion for culinary art, the great taste of the chefs and the precision in creating those 10 art pieces that definitely deserve that Michelin star. It was a great evening, and Andy was kind to spend time with us for any questions about the experience at the end.

It’s not often that I am silenced, but everything about Behind managed it. It’s not because I don’t want to shout from the rooftop about how amazing this place is, it’s because I am not sure that I could ever be articulate enough to accurately convey the sheer genius that this restaurant exudes. It is a small restaurant where every seat has the best view in the house. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed as if you are in their home. Before we get in to the food, let’s talk about the staff. They are the chefs, wait staff and pot washers - some of them I would go as far as saying they are also the comedian as well. They were so lovely to speak to, they were as interested in us as we were in them, they were incredibly knowledgeable, humble but in all honesty, I would have happily taken them to the pub afterwards and probably had a fabulous night. Now to the food (as that’s realistically what you all want to know). It is quite simply outstanding. It challenges you in a fresh and exciting way. It matches flavours that shouldn’t work and manages to extract flavour more pure than you ever thought possible in every single dish. Value for money - absolutely (even the matching wines is worth it!). Will I go back again - try and stop me! I don’t live in London but I will happily increase my travel to London just so I can go. This restaurant has found a way to test your senses and knowledge of fish that makes you appreciate it more than ever. Please try out this restaurant - there are many things we regret in life but eating here is never going to be one of them!

Probably the best dining experience of my life. Lovely people, atmosphere, drinks and food. The whole experience felt deeply connected and the people running the place have put their whole hearts and minds into it. You won’t regret it.

I had the pleasure of dining at BEHIND today for lunch, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The 6-course meal was a delight from start to finish. Each dish was not only bursting with flavour but also beautifully presented, showcasing the skill and creativity of the kitchen. What impressed me the most was the exceptional value for money, especially considering this is a Michelin-starred restaurant. Every course felt like a real treat, and I left feeling both satisfied and eager to return for more. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an extraordinary dining experience, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try the 10-course meal!
