A few months ago, a friend and I tried Batifol's all you can eat Steak/Frites Sunday offering. It was delicious. The steak was tender and just the right amount of pink inside. The service was excellent and we were very pleased with our outing; so pleased that I have been bragging how great it was and so invited my grand-nephew (who loves steak/frites) and his partner to join me on Dec. 15 for the Sunday night special as a holiday gift. What a disappointment! This time the steak was overcooked, dry and tough. We asked for another helping of rarer steak. While a second helping of french fries arrived relatively quickly, it took forever for our rarer meat to arrive. The frites were cold by then and the steak was indeed rarer but so full of gristle that it was all but inedible. Most of mine was left on the plate. My guests were polite and my grand-nephew loves the fries. I would have given a one star rating except for the much appreciated french fries and the green salad. And our waitress tried her best to serve us. I have enjoyed many meals in the partner restaurant of Batifol in Paris: Le Relais de l'Entrecote. It is one of the first places I go to when I am in Paris. The food has always been excellent. I have tried to contact Batifol about the meal but have had no response from them. I had hoped that the restaurant would be on my list of favorites. Not now.

We made the reservation for the Alsace Wine dinner. Food was so good, and the wines were chosen perfectly. The sommelier was really helpful and took time to go around to explain the wines, it made the experience even better! Can’t wait for the next event!!

The food was really average at best. The feuilleté au courges was not a feuilleté at all, but a salad with a tiny bit of feuilleté bread. Very disappointing. The boeuf tartare that was remarkably bland. My wife, a good cook and loves fish, left most red snapper and veggies uneaten. One can do a lot better.

This is my second time, and I have had positive experiences. Today, however, I entered the restaurant and was immediately aware of a smell that has become familiar when I enter upscale hotel, lobbies, boutiques, and other “hip” public spaces. I am somewhat sensitive to smell, especially when I am about to have a meal. After some time sitting with my friend waiting for our food, the folks at the table next to us departed and wait staff came over and began spraying & wiping down the tables. I realize d then that they were using this scented spray to clean down surfaces. I hope by communicating thus (and thank you for requesting feedback), management could be made aware and consider getting rid of the unnecessary scent. I’m reluctant to return unfortunately.

A good dinner but seafood terrine was rather bland (needed salt) and veal stew slightly overdone. Beef tartar was tasty but had ground-up gristle bits in it that were tough to chew. Bread came on request, was warm and delicious. Service was friendly (happy to split our shared main dish) and atmosphere was very attractive.

Went for the Thanksgiving Day prix fixe. Staff seemed to be unorganized and ill trained. I guess I shouldn’t expect too much from a turkey dinner at a French restaurant, but the meat was dry, just a tiny splotch of gravy, chewy green beans, the squash purée turned out to be chunks, and the promised house-made stuffing was nowhere to be found. Drink prices are high. A very skimpy dirty martini cost us $17, a manhattan $13.

Tuesday evening dinner with friends. I had a reservation that was confirmed earlier in the day, but when we arrived the place was bumping and there wasn't a table available? There were many big parties and the back end of restaurant was closed off for an event. Hmmm. There are two managers and one was at a loss. Thankfully the other manager came to us and said there was a table that had just paid and could we wait a moment. We did. I'm glad we waited because we had a table by the window, near the front of the restaurant and away from the hub bub; it was perfect. He thanked us for waiting and our waiter was fantastic; we each had selections from the traditional French menu - so good and beautifully plated. Lovely drinks, we shared the beet salad and a creme brulee. This is my third time eating at Batifol and I am looking forward to my next dinner or brunch there.
