Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boom­box, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course. Chef Chris Santos was one of the pioneers of the small, share plate dining trend that has swept the nation, and with the Beauty & Essex menu, he once again has created waves on the food scene.

    Valentine's Day A La Carte reservation. This $50 per person deposit is a fixed fee to guarantee banquette seating, and may not be used towards food and beverage. If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason we ask that you do so by 10:00 pm the day prior to receive a refund. Any cancellations made after 10:00 pm will not be eligible for a refund.     All reservations require a deposit of $10 per person, regardless of the party size. This deposit will be taken off of the final bill at the end of your visit. Dress to impress! If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, we ask that you do so by 10pm the day prior in order to receive a refund by emailing NYBeautyInfo@TaoGroup.Com. Any cancellations made after 10pm will not be eligible for a refund. Please let us know in advance if your party decreases. Please note that all reservations have a 90 minute dining limit due to high demand. We will try our best to accommodate seating preferences or general requests but they are not guaranteed.     Been wanting to come here for years and was very disappointed. The atmosphere and vibes were great but the food and service was not impressive, especially for the price. The food was very plain and flavorless. As for the service our waiter was super impatient with us and were asked a few times if we were done eating when it was clear we were still eating... I’m sorry to say I would not recommend this place which is disappointing since I’ve been eyeing this place for years.

    The novelty of it being a fancy restaurant behind a pawnshop front was what drew us here, but we also had a really really good experience. This restaurant has to be the one of the prettiest restaurants we’ve ever been to. My husband and I had the prix fixe, which we figured was the best way to try as many of the dishes as possible without getting too full. The food was absolutely delicious! For appetizers we had the Thai Style Deep Fried Shrimp and Little French Dips. I preferred the former over the latter. Our entrees were Lamb Chops and Wild Mushroom Ravioli. i have to say the mushroom ravioli was probably THE best we have ever had. Our sides were truffle mac and cheese and bbq fries, and for dessert we had the LES NYC doughnuts (which come with dark chocolate fudge, berry, and caramel dips) and the black bottom butterscotch pot de creme. The desserts are defintely a cut above the rest. We highly recommend this place! We’ll be coming back someday!

    You have to get the ribeye steak. 24 oz for 87 is a steal. The steak was phenomenal

    What a terrible meal. It’s almost funny how bad it was compared to the reviews. I don’t know how anyone has given this place 5 stars. The food is laughable. The tartare comes with copious amounts of cheese on it, insane, the scallops come on a thick dollop of squash puree with what seemed to be bell pepper slices on top. The steak was so mid for the price point. If you are looking for an upscale cheese cake factor type this is the place.
