The place is very cute but I had to go get tacos after speaking 100 per head per person ($700) for lunch. They only serve a raw bravette steak which bleads all over your plate. My colleague took it to go so she could finish cooking it to medium rare. The hamachi was the smallest slivers of raw fish with a raw egg on it. The poached eggs is $15- and the tastiest thing as it's a poached eggs on harissa with four potato chips. I got the pork belly, basically a thick unsalted slice of bacon with one arugula leaf and crushed peanuts. I have dietary restrictions and put it on my reservation request and there was only raw steak and a slice of bacon, the poached eggs that I could eat. Also, it said there was only one reservation left for lunch on the day we went and the place was empty. An empty restaurant why does it take 15 minutes to get a glass of water. Very disappointed .

BD never disappoints! Food is delicious and creative...look forward to returning soon! David, was our server, was attentive and also provided great wine pairing suggestions.

I've never been to a restaurant quite like Bird Dog. A friend and I went there for lunch. The waiter gave us a menu with three columns and suggested that we choose a couple items from each column and then split the dishes between use. This worked pretty well for the two of us. However, I prefer the more usual fixed small dishes with wine pairing approach where the chef selects the courses and the wine sommelier selects which wine goes best with each course. They are the experts (or should be), not me. The waiter was helpful but he's not a highly trained food and wine expert either. So if you believe that you know more about their food and wine than the chef and the sommelier (which I don't even think Bird Dog has), then this is your restaurant! One minor hiccup was that the waiter gave me a glass of red wine that was much too cold. He said that the bottle was stored in the refrigerator and offered to give me another glass of wine. I probably will not be going back to Bird Dog any time soon but for some people this might be a good alternative to other high-end restaurants in this area.

food looks good, but does not taste good. waiters are friendly. much less expensive than the 1-star, only complain is the food. I bet the price includes high real estate in Palo Alto.

The wait service was perfect: patient, knowledgeable, swift but with a great sense of timing, accurate, witty and considerate. We loved the concept of ordering whatever we desired in any sequence that seemed appropriate for us. And, not least, the dishes were all wonderful.

Even though we went on the earlier side of the evening, the staff was more interested in taking care of the guests of a private event. We waited almost a half hour before we were seated to get any service and that in,y came after we waved for attention!

We dined in the private dining room and had the best meal in recent memory. The meal was exquisite, the cocktails were inventive and delicious, and our server was fantastic. The private space itself was also amazing, including the fireplace and banquet seating. We host business dinners in Palo Alto and San Francisco often, and most rooms feel like an afterthought. We enjoyed it so much I decided to host my wife's birthday dinner here in December.
