Blue Hippo Coffee Co has been proudly serving the Verona community since 2018. Providing high quality coffee and teas, paired with a full breakfast and lunch menu. Blue Hippo was voted best brunch in Essex County by Best of Essex magazine this year, and continues to grow in popularity. The menu features elegant plates of delicious southern comfort food, especially known for house made spicy pimento cheese and buttermilk biscuits. Also popular is a large range of delicious pastries, including fresh made mini doughnuts and scones. The restaurant design is both rustic and modern, and has a cozy back garden with both standard tables and picnic tables.

Blue Hippo is proudly women-owned and women-run, and locally-owned.

Seated outside in the garden section on a 50 degree day despite us having a reservation. We were the only party seated outside for the 90 min duration that we sat through the meal. They did have the heaters on, but seemed weird to be the only party seated out on a reservations only day. Portion of the pre-fix order items were even forgotten for 2 out of 3 ppl in the party and then told they didn’t know that we wanted it. Strange because we asked for it and also why would you not serve all included portions from a pre-fix brunch menu unless we specifically told you that we didn’t want a portion of it. The food was good, nothing exceptional, but got too cold too quickly given the weather. Our server was nice and polite too given the weirdness of having to come out the restaurant only to serve us. Overall the Mother’s Day “experience” that was promised was miserable.

Overall it was a nice experience. Some of the food was AMAZING, and some was ok. I would definitely have a coffee/tea here again. That was also amazing. I was curious if it was their first time doing a Mother’s Day brunch, as the staff seemed confused, and they may need some workflow help. Some suggestions may be staggering the food, or having a place for orders to come in. Maybe additional wait staff. Seemed to have one waitress, but a few runners. Only suggestions. Overall, it was a lovely time. I would go again for a quick drink, but I am not sure if I would do a brunch in a busy day.
