Named by Robb Report as one of the Top 10 Best New Restaurants in the country, Brasero combines South American passion with midwestern grit and brings Chef John Manion's talent for wood-fired Latin cooking to West Town’s bustling restaurant row. This sultry 120-seater draws inspiration from across Latin America, honed through Manion’s decades of experience. Think flame- roasted, whole young chickens slicked with garlic-chili oil, steaks cooked over an open fire alongside chimichurri, and moqueca teeming with clams, shrimp & Mahi Mahi with coconut-scented rice—all washed down with quenching caipirinhas, locally brewed, Latin-inspired beer and 100 bottles of wine under 100 dollars.

This was my second visit, and once again, it was excellent. We loved every dish. The cocktails are fun and creative, and the service is extraordinary. Service (on both of my visits) was the best I have had in a long time (and servers in Chicago tend to be extraordinary, so this is high praise).

Took my mom and sister here last night, and our server was amazing and handled everything perfectly. We ordered 5 things and of those, 2 had to be returned and re-fired. The tuna appetizer came out and was unsalted, needed acid, and was poor quality (tough, chewy and brown). 5 minutes later our lovely server returned with an absolutely delicious redo with much better quality fish that melted in your mouth and was perfectly seasoned. We appreciated the redemption and it was worth it. Fried chicken was great (and gluten free). Then got the broccolini which was delicious. The branzino was burnt and unfortunately super bitter, this was sent back and our server returned with a dish that was dramatically better, it turns out it was supposed to have a crust and was probably the best branzino I’ve ever had. They comped some sweet potatoes for us which was appreciated and these were the best sweet potatoes I’ve ever had. The pork shank was ok, I think this was just the wrong dish for us as it’s a massive platter of meat and we were stuffed at that point. My stepdad showed up early to pick up our mom and helped polish off the leftovers. We ordered desserts and there wasn’t a single bite left, the passion fruit semifreddo was incredible and unlike anything we’d ever had, sister said it’s the best dessert she’s ever had. The chocolate budino was awesome with a ton of textures, and my stepdad couldn’t stop eating the mango and calamansi sorbet. Most of the menu was gluten free and the few that weren’t could be altered to be gluten free. Overall the food was pretty fantastic with the desserts being the star, service was incredible, but having to return two dishes and them both coming back and be exceptional left us feeling awkward. Server could not have handled it better. If the kitchen had better quality control on what went out to tables it would’ve been 5 stars, the fixed dishes were amazing and so different from the 1st attempts.

We were seated in a booth that straddles the bar and restaurant. Very loud rather inebriated guests at the bar made dinner a less than wonderful experience. I can tell you ALL about this gentleman’s job.salary.childhood and sex life. Unfortunate seating.

One of the BEST meals I've ever had in Chicago (and let me tell you, I have been to a lot of places). Service was incredible, the restaurant decor is stunning, and the food was insanely delicious and full of flavor. Hands down the best short rib I've EVER had. I was hesitant to write this because I want to gate keep Brasero but this is a must visit! You will not be disappointed.
