   We visited Abode Chester on Saturday 22nd February. Food was good! Location was lovely. However, the service was absolutely terrible considering it was a group paying over £300. We ordered Afternoon Tea which was supposed to come with free refillable hot drinks, however not once did anybody come over to see if we wanted extra refreshments, we had to go up and chase, we had already been there 30/40 minutes at this point. Again with standard drinks, we had to go up, then eventually someone would come over and ask us. Additionally, there was not enough cutlery or plates, despite booking the table with the amount of people attending in advance. This is really disappointing as the restaurant was not busy, and there was more than enough staff by the looks of it. We were just left. This is not what I would expect from this type of establishment. Staff did not greet us on arrival, and I feel they were quite hostile, again, for this type of establishment, this is not what you would expect. We were also overcharged as the menu stated £25pp, instead we were charged over £26pp. We also paid a service charge of around £30 which I did not realise at the time otherwise, I would’ve requested for this to be removed as the service was awful. After paying over £300 for mediocre food and appalling service, we could’ve gone to Grosvenor Pulford for similar, but incredible service! I never leave reviews however, this has truly been one of the worst experiences that not just me, but the whole group experienced. Unfortunately, due to the service we will not be coming back again.

   Menu needs explaining better ie small plates, large plates, how big they are etc. chips arrived with starter/small plates but we asked for them with main course. Main course arrived but our wine was not, apparently locked in a downstairs store, we had to get our food taken back to the kitchen whilst the key was found and the wine chilled. All in all a bit of a mess. The waitress was charming and did her best and the wine was removed from the bill.

   We went for afternoon tea. It was just OK, nothing special. Nice view but not much atmosphere and the food was average.

   We had afternoon tea and the food was of a good standard. Main issue was initially waiting quite a while for our drinks to appear. Then staff kept leaving the room, so we had to locate people to ask for more drinks. The coffee was warm. There was no milk with the tea. Extra plates were not provided for the scones or cakes. Jam , cream and butter were on the table , but knives or spoons were not provided, so again, had to wait for staff member to request this. The view from the Brasserie restaurant is great, but we were sat inside with full sun and no shade , which became uncomfortable after a short time. Plus the food stands were directly in the sun , not so good for sandwiches and cakes. The menu on the table stated afternoon tea was £25, but we were charged £26 p.p. When challenged, we were told these were the old menus. Yet they were still on the table. It’s a shame, as it’s a lovely venue plus bathroom facilities were good.

   We celebrated a friends’ big birthday with afternoon tea. The staff made our friend and ourselves feel very special. We had had to make a couple of last minute changes and this was all sorted very graciously, and with no fuss. The food was excellent and the whole experience was a delight. Thank you.    Sunday night, service was ok as was food, hospitality management was amateur. They messed up our bill and, instead of thoroughly investigating at their end, they claimed that we hadn't settled a drinks bill and started sending daily demands for payment via the hotel group email. Immediately, I asked to be sighted on the EPoS audit trail for our table - everything that was registered, all the corrective entries that the waitress made in attempting to deduct the discount we were entitled to (she'd only been shown how to do this 15 minutes earlier) and the final bill that we paid in good faith. After 4 days of asking, my requests are being ignored and I receive a daily demand for payment. Do not go here on a Sunday night, it appears to be staffed by trainees learning the job on a quiet night, and lord knows what training they actually receive because we were not impressed. I can't imagine EVER wanting to return to this brasserie and hotel again after the way they've treated me

    We had a great . The food was good but the service was excellent. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Joe, the duty manager, who went over and above to make our evening a great experience. Thank you. And we will see you again.
