Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

My wife and I returned to Butterjoint for the cassoulet, which has only been available for a period of two weeks every winter for the past few years. It was excellent, as it has been every time we've come to the restaurant to order it. We also ordered the pickled shrimp as a starter and shared a slice of the Basque cheesecake for dessert. They were also excellent. We live an hour drive from Butterjoint, which is why we don't go there more often. But tonight's meal was the typically high quality experience that we've had at Butterjoint in the past.

We had a lovely experience at Butterjoint. My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary and from the moment we walked in the door, the staff was amazing. Lovely ambiance and the food was exceptional. We shared several dishes and didn’t have a single complaint. The raclette cheese was great, very similar to what we have had in France. As was the French onion soup, which had perfectly cooked onions and a beautifully melted cheese on top. We also shared the pierogi and vegetable plate. Last we split a root beer, float, and the vinegar pie, which was an utter stand out. If you’ve never had it, definitely take the time and try it. Overall, we can’t wait to return.

Butterjoint is a great place. The moment you walk in the staff makes you feel welcome. Service was outstanding. Espresso martini was one of the best I have ever tasted. The food is exceptional. Some common sandwiches with a fresh twist. Also some unique dishes that are out of this world. Great attention to the healthier side of dining out. Fries in tallow. You had me right there. We will definitely be back.

I don't feel that 4 pierogies on a plate is worth 17 dollars, they were tasty but not outstanding. $15 Pickle plate was also a disappointment. The lumps (japanese milk bread) were great and the high point of this meal.
