   Très bel établissement . On vient surtout pour l’endroit. Le repas était bon même si ce n’était pas le meilleur qu’on ai fait . On s’attendait un peu à mieux Fish and chips avec des frites qui en semblent pas maison un peu dommage mais l’endroit vaut le détour

   We felt the food was average and very overpriced for what it was. The service was ok, but not very welcoming. The building and location are excellent, but the product not so much.

   I have come to Edinburgh for many years (from overthe border), and although I can't say I've eaten in every restaurant in Edinburgh, I've eaten in a good proportion of them. Cafe Royal, is my favourite. If you want fish or shellfish, this is the place. The decor, ambience, atmosphere and customer service is excellent. Never a bad lunch or dinner here. For all that, you would think it would be expensive. Not so, the value for money is very good. Here again last night and we weren't disappointed. Never an empty table either, so make sure you book.

   very good to food menu and charming atmosphere. We ordered it fish and chips and fish stew and really enjoy it.

    Lovely rooms really authentic Victorian. If it wasn't as nice would not survive on the rest! Beware on the staff highly recommended seafood stew special at a high price they i am sure told to push it and it's not great and bad value. The rest of the meal was good and fit the cost point. The service was average at best and it was over 40mins between starters and mains which is v bad. If it not for the special occasion would of left at that stage waitress poked a head in and did the allgood and ran before you could reply! Would recommend for a visit but price and what's been offered in our case did nit add up.
