Canal Side Inn offers a "beautiful location" by the canal, blending French and American cuisine. Guests rave about the "tender filet" and "outstanding meatloaf." The atmosphere is enhanced by live music and attentive service. Despite some calls for modernization, the "memorable experience" and "delicious specialty cocktails" keep patrons returning.

We really enjoyed our meals at Canal Side Inn. The food was excellent! Could not have been better. From interesting and fresh soup and salad choices, to well prepared and presented main courses and desserts, everything was great. The atmosphere is like taking a step back in time, with wood paneling and even a full phone booth outside the bar area. The music, tunes I remembered hearing at my grandparent's house, complemented the environment nicely. Tables were beautifully set and the service pleasant and attentive. The only thing that was a slight negative, and due to the age and location of the space, was a musty smell initially upon entering. A little bit like a grandparent's house, too! :) In no way did that impact the overall experience for us, and we will definitely be back.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend who had eaten there many times (Admittedly several years ago). We had high hopes. Reservations for 5:00. Bartender greeted us and we went to the dining room. Only people there. First impressions was "tired." Worn carpets. Lackluster decorations. As I was about to sit down it was clear that the chair was coming apart and was unsafe. Waitress switched chairs. We ordered cocktails and it took a LONG time to serve them, considering the place was empty. There was a small bowl of softened butter which to me indicated that bread was going to be delivered. I asked three times. What finally arrived was a basket with a cloth napkin and 4 tiny slices of baguette. Really tiny. We both laughed. We both ordered the pork chop specialthat was supposed to have roasted potatoes and vegetables. Pork chop was ok, although the apple compote topping was not terrific. a few potatoes--lacking seasoning--and barely warm. The vegetables were literally a tablespoon of roasted chopped veggies. By that point, two other couples had arrived--one mentioned that the restaurant had been recommended and the other couple said they had been there several years ago and were back it the area. I suspect they were disappointed. All in all, it was an expensive waste of time. The waitress was very nice and clearly tried to make things ok. No issue with her. When we left at 6:15 there were still just two couples there. Saturday night? 6:00?

Wonderful & unexpected restaurant in small town central New York. Very ambitious menu; the staff pulled off well what we ordered. Fruits de Mer especially good. Great service. Little noise, mostly from the adjacent bar area, and no TVs.

2 out of 4 meals were excellent. Unfortunately the pork Osso Buco was chewy and undercooked, needed more time braising. One filet of beef was overcooked. The service was attentive but not bothersome. The food presentation was outstanding as always.

drinks. salads, and appetizer were excellent, along with the service. The main meal was a little disappointing. Seafood dish had NO crab, and the Osso Bocco had almost like a spaghetti sauce instead of a wine reduction.
