Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

De la part des éditeur·rice·s d'OpenTable: The music is loud, the jerk chicken is hot, and the cocktails are colorful at Canje, the East Austin hotspot from chef and Guyanese native Tavel Bristol-Joseph. In a lively space decked with palm fronds and tropical wallpaper, dig into Caribbean-inspired dishes like Guyanese-style roti and West Indian curry that earned Bristol-Joseph his first James Beard nod.

Only 4 bites of beef in the wagyu beef curry for $30… felt like a huge ripoff. Same concept for the Amberjack ceviche. We’ve been to all of the major foodie spots in Austin and this was a very disappointing experience at what is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in town.

Truly love this restaurant. I had to move from Austin but I always come back when I’m in town for work.

Canje is literally my favorite restaurant in Austin. The food is always amazing and the staff is fabulous. A staple for sure!

I’ve been multiple times and enjoy bringing friends and family visiting Austin here because the food and cocktails are consistently good. They were able to move my grandparents and I to a quieter section of the restaurant and were extremely accommodating overall. Great service and pleasant staff. It is on the pricy side ($110-130 per person), but the flavors are varied and unusual compared to other restaurants in the area.

Everything I had was absolutely fantastic. One of the best meals I’ve ever had in Austin. Will definitely be back.

So much food couldn’t tell you what my favorite thing was. Basically everything is worth their bite in gold.
