Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

    I love Canje. For sure one of my ultimate go-to’s for a nice night out in Austin. Lisa the host was super nice and sat us in a really great spot on the bar, and Jason our bartender and server was incredible. You can tell the whole staff loves working there, something super rare and special in Austin (I’m from Austin, so I’ve seen it all). The owner seems like an incredible guy too. We are always happy to dine at Black owned restaurants on the east side. They really know what they’re doing!

    Rated: HANDFUL OF STARS! Wonderfully friendly & personal experience. We dined on the patio, which was laid back and comfortable; our server, Jun, was kind, helpful and attentive. We ordered a variety of small plates, savory mains and sides, sharing them family-style; each item was delicious; and the desserts were AMAZING! The pace of sending out dishes was perfect for visiting & relaxing; we highly recommend Canje and look forward to returning for another exquisite meal soon!

    Back again for another experience and brought some friends with us this time. They had the rum punch on the rocks which was amazing. It needed to be a little sweeter so perhaps can ask for that beforehand if you prefer sweeter alcoholic beverages. The jerk chicken, roti, pepper rice and plantain chips were on point as usual. So consistency-wise I’d say Canje is pretty consistent with the quality of their food. My friends had the boar hotpot dish which melted in your mouth and they also had the fish and said it was fantastic. The service was phenomenal. Will be back!

    What an incredibly fun, unique and delicious experience! The freshness and combinations of flavors and spices blew us away! It was a bit cramped as our table was a tiny two-top against a wall at the kitchen door so I’d ask for a different table next time, but the service was delightful and food was truly amazing. We can’t wait to go back.

    This is our new all time favorite restaurant!!! The flavors are so unique and so delicious! We have always had wonderful and knowledgeable servers. :) can’t recommend enough!

    Best dinner we've had in years! Started with Ceviche, which was very refreshing, and had Haitian Griot (excellent seasoning, cooked to perfection), Jerk Chicken (the real deal), Guyanese Style Roti (melts in your mouth) and Grilled Cabbage (elevating cabbage to tasting levels I didn't know this was possible). We didn't have room for dessert but it was highly recommended and our server offered us half a portion of Cassareep Ice Cream. Glad we experienced this as well!!!
