Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Matthew Basford

From the OpenTable editors: At this iconic restaurant located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the setting is as spectacular as the elegant farm-to-table fare. Grab a seat in the dining room with wooden ceilings resembling canoes and an open kitchen to watch executive chef Matthew Basford whip up elegant American dishes like slow-braised rabbit with mushroom stroganoff. Or linger with a glass of wine from the award-winning list on the outdoor patio for prime river and garden views.

Arrived at 5:20(10 minutes early) and told we had to wait for 25 minutes to be seated outside where there were plenty of tables. Why did I request a 5:30 reservation????? I am extremely disappointed in the way we were treated. If you make a 5:30 reservation you expect to be seated at 5:30 not 5:50pm. There was absolutely no reason why we were told to wait for 25 minutes. Get your act together with some more responsible older supervision in this establishment.

TERRIBLE Ambiance and food looks nothing like the pictures. Lamb dish was cold, fennel raviolis had no flavor, mom is vegetarian ordered a vegetable plate that ended up being 90% canned corn, truffle fries were mushy and cold, they ration the bread and walk around giving 1 piece at a time (very odd) beat and goats cheese appetizer was the only good bite of food the whole night. Also what’s up with the mandatory valet parking when your in a tiny lot right out front of the building? Just another attempt to try to elevate and make more expensive?? Worst “fine” dining experience I’ve had in Atlanta and maybe ever. Will not be back!

Everything was amazing from the moment we walked in! The customer service was great. We sat outside and had a view of the river, which was very peaceful. And of course the food was great, we came for brunch and it did not disappoint. Will definitely be back!

Canoe has for years been infamous for it's slow service. Both my mother and I have served as executive assistants for over 2 decades coordinating business luncheons, dinners, and parties, and Canoe has never figured out how to remedy this. Friday night's dinner for 7 was no different. Our staff was excellent at first, but then slowly forgot about us. A full 30 minute delay before we got our table, and another 30 minutes of being ghosted after we finished our entree, with the staff knowing full well we were going to order dessert, as the dinner was for our grandmother's 75th birthday. Our table was RIGHT NEXT to a windy door, with cigar smokers right outside, and it was a cold evening. The men's bathroom had been sorely neglected. We will NEVER return to Canoe, nor send another executive there for a business meal. Canoe will just never learn.

It was a nice atmosphere. Our waitress wasn’t not very personable. Actually, she tainted the experience a bit. The food was good, but lukewarm. Service can elevate the food if there is an exceptional waitress. Unfortunately, it wasn’t elevated.

I had an incredible experience at Canoe Restaurant in Atlanta. Our waiter, Stephen, was exceptional—truly top-notch. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent recommendations for dishes and drinks, and providing detailed descriptions of the desserts. The seating was immaculate, and the restaurant's energy created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Every staff member we encountered, whether a server, host, or other team member, greeted us kindly as we passed. The entire experience was nothing short of amazing. If I could rate it, I would give it a 1000 out of 10! If you haven't visited Canoe yet, I highly recommend it. I’ll definitely be back and am especially excited for the outdoor bar to open. Being able to overlook the Chattahoochee River added an extra layer of charm to the visit. It was simply wonderful!
