   A few years ago I used to go to Carluccio's frequently and enjoyed it. Sadly, the food is no where near as good as it used to be. The bruschetta was tasteless. I couldn't taste any garlic. The tomatoes were very cold, straight out of the fridge. They weren't marinated in olive oil and balsamic. There wasn't any basil either. The bread was very thin a d dry. Definitely not worth £8.95 I had the seafood risotto and my friend had the seafood linguine. The squid for both of us was overcooked. It was very tough. I had a closed muscle and a few empty shells. There were 7 muscles per portion. I know this because my friend had the same amount. I wasn't pleased I was given a closed muscle, which can't be eaten. There is no excuse for not replacing it with an open muscle when they obviously have to count them per plate. Also, it wasn't busy, we wewr there at 16.00hrs, Also, my risotto was heavily over salted. I didn't enjoy it at all. I ate it because I was hungry. The 2 women staff that served us were very warm, welcoming and friendly. That's the only positive experience at Carluccio's, sadly. I can honestly say I won't be eating there again.    We booked a birthday meal for two of our party and the waitress asked if it was a birthday when I first got there, but neither birthday was acknowledged. I had expected perhaps a sparkler or a free desert. In addition I arrived 15 minutes before our booking but no one approached me to order a coffee or a drink. Waitresses were not attentive and we had to ask for desserts and then the bill. A little more attention on a special occasion would have been good.

   Overall an average experience - even though the restaurant was quiet, once our food arrived we didn't see the servers again at all, not to check if everything was ok or whether we wanted to order anything else, or even to offer the bill; we had to go looking for them to pay. The food was average, acceptable value for money but nothing exceptional.

   Excellent and polite service, perfect Valentine's Day atmosphere and menu selection. Would definitely go again. Perfectly cooked courses, presented with perfection on the plates. Very reasonably priced too and plenty of space around seating and other diners. Perfect.
