COOKING WITH FIRE, SOUTH TEXAS STYLE Carriqui celebrates the South Texas tradition of drawing flavor from fire. Inspired by the flight path of our namesake bird, our menus feature regional favorites from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas coast, and the Hill Country. Nearly every dish is touched by the glowing embers of our custom-forged pits, smoker, or grill, all fueled by native wood. Along with housemade tortillas, cold margaritas, and warm hospitality, each meal is an opportunity to experience the vibrant food and spirit of our South Texas culture.

Store bought chips, pulp avocados and not fresh. Carriqui salad was missing ingredients, and food was just ok. Something has changed cooks or management and the restaurant is about to lose a lot of business if they don’t get it together.

We tried calling twice ahead of time to change our reservation. We left messages, but never received a call back. Fortunately, the reservation was updated on their end despite the lack of communication. Correspondence would have been appreciated, though. The hostess was kind and accommodating when we asked for an outside table due to the nice weather. The ambiance is welcoming and warm. Almost immediately, it felt like there was tension between our table and our server. He was snippy and seemed annoyed when we asked questions about the menu. He made rude remarks when asked to elaborate about the beverages when we questioned if they were made to order, because we could see some sort of vat on the countertop. To his defense, he was attentive, but that doesn’t constitute a poor attitude. I was a server for many years, so I’m the first to give grace but this was not okay. We ordered their standard margaritas and were very disappointed. Dilute lime water with a slight remnant of tequila. We informed the server who did apologize, but that was it. We then ordered the top shelf margaritas thereafter, which were much better. Balanced and made well. Why we had to get top shelf to enjoy a standardized beverage is beyond me. Our dishes varied significantly in quality and satisfaction. The initial appetizer of chips and house made salsa are very tasty. We ordered a plate of nachos and queso. The nachos were good, not much else to say. The queso mirrored the flavor of velveeta cheese product, and was palatable if mixed with the salsa. The smokehouse plate was great. Made for 2-3 people, it consisted of grilled shrimp, a black drum filet, two tacos, and several accompaniments. We would order it again. My wife ordered the birria, which was savory and flavorful. My mother’s brisket was terrible: Maybe six ounces of dry, tough, beef with minimal smoke ring. Disappointing. Between the overall service and volatility of food and beverages, I can’t recommend Carriqui.

I love that the restaurant has exclusive parking. Secondly, the hostesses were very friendly and accommodating. We requested to be seated outside; it was the most beautiful and comfortable location we could have had. Our waitress, Meg M, was super friendly and attentive. Our strawberry margarita and the carriqui margaritas were superb! We had tuna tostadas and ceviche, which was enough for two people. We had to pass on desserts but not on the margaritas. 🍹🎉It was the best time to reconnect with a long-time friend. We both enjoyed having lunch at Carriqui and will come back. Overall, the food, the ambience, and the service made our meeting special. Thank you!

A Masterclass in Hospitality at Carriqui Dined on March 2, 2025 Carriqui never fails to impress, but last night’s experience at the bar was something special. Dining alone can sometimes be an afterthought at restaurants, but here, it was an immersive journey into the heart of Texas hospitality. Jordan, the restaurant director, took the time to share his deep knowledge and passion for the building’s history, walking me through photos and details that brought the space’s rich past to life. It was clear from the way he spoke that Carriqui is more than just a restaurant—it’s a labor of love. The bartenders upheld that same dedication, providing an unbelievable level of service. Every drink was crafted with precision, and their attentiveness made the experience feel personal and elevated. From start to finish, it was clear that every member of the team is committed to making Carriqui not just a meal, but an experience to remember.

Service was great, atmosphere was low energy and relaxing especially in a beautiful on the patio. Drinks were great food was ok. For the area and pricing prob rate 6 out of 10, nothing magnificent but would def recommend for relaxing conversations and cocktails.

The problem with this restaurant is the service. We got seated upstairs and only one other table was occupied. I had to go downstairs to request the server so we could order. We have previously been seated upstairs and we previously got forgotten. So not to have that happen again I was proactive. The food is delicious but they really have a problem with service in my opinion. I’m not so sure I will ever go again. Especially because this has been a recurring problem.

Can never go wrong visiting Carriqui! Service is impeccable and the food pushes all the right buttons. Jose is an amazing server who remembers your name and your drink preferences. Unbelievable! I enjoy chatting with the bar staff as they are as friendly as they are knowledgeable…best Carajillo in San Antonio, by the way. Great ambience inside or on the patio.
