Commoner & Co. is a neighborhood gem that we sometimes dine at. The quality of the food and service has been consistently high. On our most recent visit, my dining companion ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the airline chicken. When I scanned the online menu before we left, I decided I would order the New York strip. However, when we arrived, I learned that they had removed the steak from the chicken and replaced it with a short rib pot pie. I ordered the crab orecchiette, which was surprisingly bland. I don’t recommend it, unless you object to flavor. The wine and service were excellent and I enjoyed the boisterous Saturday evening atmosphere (my dining companion, not so much).

Food and drinks are excellent, and always have been, but this is the second time we’ve been where the service / seating area / ambience is lacking. The restaurant seems confused in trying to strike a balance between fine dining and casual dining / bar experience. They have a separate restaurant seating area and bar area with TVs, but the restaurant area is a bit cramped and doesn’t flow with the rest of the building. Also, I specifically put in our reservation request through Open Table that it was a date night without kids (which is a rarity for us), and the hostess seated us next to the only table with young children right next to us (love our kids and the ones next to us were well behaved, but she almost seemed offended when my husband discreetly got up to ask the hostess to request that we be moved, making a snide comment as she re-seated us). The manager saved the evening when he brought out our appetizer and made us more comfortable by turning our table so we could enjoy sitting next to each other. Again, amazing food and drinks, but difficult service experience and set up.

It was a good time, great food and wine combinations. It's one of those places you go to when you want quality over value.

It was Valentine’s Day, so a fixed priced meal. Commoner & Co has been our choice for this holiday dinner. The filet, especially the sauce that accompanied the beef, was quite tasty! However, the shared bites that were served as a first course, along with the shared dessert, a small slice, were rather disappointing. In years past, there has been a choice of first course for each person, not shared. For the price, we felt short changed this year. At least the wine pairing pours were representative of the added cost to experience them. Regarding the ambiance, we were seated in a side/back room. For us, that was fine because it was quiet. But, the ambiance of that room was rather “common” aka dull. We will return with hopes of an improved offering next February 14th.

We have been to Commoner quite a few times and have always had a good experience. The servers are friendly and attentive. Cocktails are great. Food is tasty and comes to the table without a long wait. My only very small criticism is that portions can be a little small. But that won't stop us from returning .

In need of comfort food, not for the first time time, three of us were able to get a last minute reservation. One of us had the always excellent meat loaf, and the other two of us had the burger with lemon pepper aioli. His burger came a ordered well done, and mine as rare as possible. Both came with excellent fries. One of us had a vodka martini, and one had local craft beer. Service was as usual prompt, pleasant and efficient. We were seated at high top table with a banquette on one side. A caveat for anyone under average height if you sit on the cushioned banquettes you will be almost at table level with your face. Likewise for the stools, both guys are over 6 feet and were also uncomfortable. Next time we'll plan better and get a table.
