Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Victor Jimenez

From the OpenTable editors: The award-winning, ride-’em-cowboy digs—hello, indoor fire pits—are one reason to dine at this long-standing East Village steakhouse. But so is the meaty food. Executive chef Victor H. Jimenez serves world-class New American fare like New York-style Hokkaido wagyu (flown in from Japan) and smoked garlic mac and cheese.

Food and service were incredible. Only downfall was we were seating in the private dining room and there was a large party behind us that was extremely loud. I would suggest not mixing smaller parties in with the large tables in the private space as it gets VERY loud. Otherwise it was 5 stars. Will return.

The great news: service was excellent, food spot on. We had bread (must have), beets, and a charcuterie plate to start, which was plenty for four of us. All was excellent, but the charcuterie was the standout: perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and even came with notes so you knew what you were eating. For dinner, we had filet mignon, wagyu skirts, and a ribeye. All were superb and cooked exactly to specification. Desserts and drinks were also very good. The less fabulous: We asked for a quiet corner since it is a busy and crowded spot, and while we were in a corner of the private room in the back, so was a loud party of 6 or 8. We asked if they could do something, but nothing was done. Parking: Even at 5:30 on a Sunday, it was not easy to find a spot close by.. If there'd been valet, we'd have definitely used it. All in all, we'd do it again for a special occasion. The manager did listen to our noise issue, and acknowledged it impacted our experience tonight, so I don't expect it to happen again

Had the 24 oz bone-in Wagyu Ribeye - fantastic. Beets with whipped ricotta amazing. Shrimp cocktail always on point and the lardons included with the wedge are out of this world! Favorite restaurant in San Diego!

The food was fantastic. All their steaks are great but try the bone in wagyu rib eye. Best steak ever. And we have eaten at most downtown steak places. Matt’s drinks were perfect. As usual. The service by Luis was great, but a special thanks to Ruby for taking such great care of us.
