The pub was packed and once shown to our table there was a dog in the restaurant! We waited over an hour for our food, I requested an update on service with two of the staff. When the food eventually arrived it was Luke warm and not at the same time so once all 6 of us had our meals the first 4 plates were cold. We were told that as an apology the roast lunch es had double beef on them, this was not the case. Once the main courses were collected we were told that any puddings would be free of charge as an apology. Consequently we ordered our puddings and even they took ages to arrive. When I paid the bill the landlord / manager did apologise for reasons which really did not make the experience any better. Poor service and poor quality food. My Granddaughter even had her burger between two slices of toast because they had ‘run’ out of buns

Booked a table for 4. Wanted to increase to 5 but OpenTable would not allow. Called twice to amend to 5 people. Turned up still as 4 people! Not good! No sourdough fir starters just cheap supermarket white sliced bread. Hardly any sauce on prawn cocktail. Roast beef meal however was good.

Wonderful and welcoming pub with a great atmosphere. The staff are very good and the service was at the right pace. The food was very good, the menu gave a nice choice and all at a reasonable price. I am sure we will return

Having visited a few years ago and had a lovely time we decided to go again for our daughter’s birthday a bit last minute as she was visiting for the day. We arrived and the car park was quiet as we went in we were greeted and seated at the table we had booked, apart from people drinking at the bar the restaurant area was empty and felt a little cold. We ordered drinks and they hadn’t got Heineken 0 so had to have an alternative and my daughter had lemonade which didn’t smell like lemonade at all and didn’t taste like it either. We ordered starters which were ok, nice breaded calamari but one of our daughters ordered sourdough garlic bread which on arrival was sliced bread and didn’t look like sourdough. Our mains arrived hot which was good one of our daughters ordered the half a chicken which when she cut into it it leaked the watery juices over her plate which didn’t help the skin on fries which weren’t the best and her corn ribs which was a corn on the cob cut into half, my husband order extra veg which were more peas and some carrots and parsnips which seemed limp and didn’t taste great. For dessert one daughter had cookie dough which was just a melted cookie and myself and another daughter had the raspberry and apple crumble but neither of us could find any raspberries. All in all it just didn’t feel like we had the food and drink that we had ordered from the menu.

Not a very warm welcome. Pub was empty and we still had slow service. No draught ales available “all gone” Offered Guinness but that wasn’t in the £12 light lunch offer so initially charged an extra £11 until we asked for it to be taken off the bill as no other drinks in the offer were available. This was done by a different member of staff. We had driven 1.5 hours to this pub to meet my brother but it was not up to its usual standard.

Four friends met at The Crown and Horns as a convenient halfway point for (non-festive) Sunday lunch. The place was very cold and one of our party as well as someone on another table, asked for the heating to be put on. The fires had not been lit. Starters were OK but otherwise, I have never experienced such appalling food and service. One person's chicken schnitzel was acceptable having been freshly cooked. The roast beef and roast chicken meals were served with strangely ice cold food on cold plates! It was as if half-cooked food had been put on a plate to be reheated, possibly microwaved? On complaining, the plates were taken away to be heated and then the beef was so tough one person could not cut it but the other persevered and bent the knife! Roast potatoes were not crisp and tasted stale. I imagine they had been defrosted but not then properly cooked. Broccoli and carrots were al dente, which I like, but remained cold. The "roasted" parsnips had colour but were floppy. Microwaved, fully plated food does not work, especially on Yorkshire puddings which were inedible. We complained and asked to see a manager but none was available. We sat and talked for half an hour without being offered a dessert or coffee. Eventually on complaining again, a lady behind the bar reduced the price of the bill, which was st least something!

Booked for a mid-week lunch. £30 per head fee if a no-show seems a bit steep to me, but I would never just not turn up. Phoned me in advance to check Festive or ordinary menu, which was good. Anyway, friendly welcome and shown to a table. Not busy at all. Nice interior, typical country pub feel. Shame about the rather irritating piped music coming from the speaker right above our table – is it necessary? Service was friendly but food a little disappointing for me, considering the price. Lasagne was small and rather runny with very little mince in it – mostly bechemel sauce I think. Other dishes were ok but nothing had the wow factor.

Sunday lunch after a lovely dog walk. The main restaurant/bar area was packed but we had a table in the back restaurant room which was otherwise empty and suited us fine. Our weary spaniel curled up on the floor. The waitress was super friendly and attentive even though we were away from the main action. The roasts - we had pork and chicken - were both just fabulous. Lots of meat and veggies and plump Yorkshire puddings piled up on the plates. I loved the pudding option of a coffee and mini-pudding which was the perfect size after the chunky main course. Altogether excellent and we will definitely be back.

It was the fourth time we’ve eaten here and every time previously was five star each time This time though they had tech issues so our order was wrong then the bill was wrong and the employees where very stressed I do recommended people try it as it genuinely is a brilliant pub I just hope they get the tech issues sorted
