   Awful service. Forgot items and never returned to the table once food arrived. Appetizers came after entrees. Over priced. Very disappointed.

   We love the culinary dropout. It is one of out favorite restaurants in downtown Gilbert. Service is excellent and the food is very good.

   Like a few previous visits, there were several missing items in terms of availability. Each member of the party had to make a substitution due to lack of food available - overcooked fries, missing proteins for salad, missing bread for a pastrami sandwich. While on a weekend this could be understandable, but after New Years with an ASU game that had been scheduled for weeks, the kitchen was out of many items and slow to bring out entrees. The service was slow due to lack of staff, the seating was also delayed and the initial seating was out of range of televisions to view the football game. Service from the bar was surprisingly slow and one of my fellow diners received cold food (burger) which ended up being his 3rd meal choice. Probably the most disappointing Culinary Dropout experience so far. Was so embarrassed to have selected this restaurant to watch the game and have my fellow diners be unable to get what they wanted.

   This was our third year in a row dining at Culinary Dropout on New Year's Eve. Coincidentally, we had the same server, Loretta, that we had last year. She is a great server and such a ray of light and positivity. She also knew the menu well and helped guide us through the recently updated menu. We got the nachos as an appetizer and our party devoured them! One person in our party got the steak frites and subbed the fries for mash potatoes made from real potatoes. The other 2 people in our party got the NYE special of steak, polenta bites, and lobster. The flavor was incredible and the meat was perfectly cooked. We are fans of surf and turf which is typically served as whole portions of steak and lobster, however this dish was served as sliced pieces of steak and chunks of lobster. Not a big deal, but it would have been helpful to know this detail ahead of time. We ended with the Mud Pie which is truly an experience in itself! PLEASE NEVER REMOVE the mud pie from the menu!    There was never any warning that certain drinks on the menu like the Christmas tree tower would be for parties of four or more; that should be notified on OpenTable and by the restaurant. Another drink on the menu was not available and given that this is literally a bar pop-up staff should’ve been notified about that. There was absolutely no holiday music playing. Very disappointing.

    Culinary Dropout is our “go to” restaurant. We’ve never had a bad meal or poor service until now. We ordered our favorite appetizer, pretzels and cheese and, not only did it take an unreasonable amount of time to get to the table (approx 35 minutes), the pretzels were hard and the cheese was coagulated, as if it had been sitting for a long time. Our meals arrived at about the 45 minute mark and the fries were hard as rocks and not edible. Hot sandwiches were barely warm and the salads were drowning in dressing. Our server was lovely but didn’t give us updates on meals or visit the table to refill drinks. We hope this experience was an anomaly and will try our favorite place once again and hopefully, have a better experience.
