Cured – The gastro-pub style restaurant, in the heart of the Pearl District of San Antonio, TX. Cured is endowed with a name that celebrates Chef Steve McHugh's successful battle against cancer, as well as the artisanal cured meats that are the cornerstone of his menu. The three-time James Beard Award finalist began his culinary journey on a small farm in Wisconsin and a vibrant decade in New Orleans. This position eventually led him to San Antonio where, with a new lease on life after beating lymphoma, he ventured out on his own to open Cured. McHugh's gastronomic foundation relies on the purity of natural regional ingredients and the hands-on unadultured methods that enhanced his own healing process. This from-scratch focus finds its way to seasonally dynamic menus of cured delicacies from the charcuterie to pickles.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Steve McHugh

From the OpenTable editors: Cured is where you go for some of the country’s best charcuterie, thanks to James Beard-nominated chef Steve McHugh. Step into the rustic, century-old brick building with ham hocks swinging in a glass case, then choose from nearly a dozen charcuterie options like venison loin to elk paté. Don’t miss other menu standouts like crispy fried quail legs and steak frites starring premium cuts of beef like a dry-aged porterhouse

What an adventure! We ate at least 5 different items we had never had before! Everything was excellent! We had a great server, but for some reason we were sat at what they called the “Chef’s Bar”. Not sure if that is a special place to sit, but we were the only ones there and I would not called it a special place to sit. It was extremely dark, bar stools were not real comfortable, and I think it was tough for our waiter to wait on us because we were away from general seating. Other than that we had a great time, we are always looking for something different and this certainly filled the bill!

An odd night…. Lovely waitress but it appeared there were only two servers. Didn’t like my cocktail: tasted like medicine. Chicken was dry. Didn’t like the sauces. Limoncello cake dessert was really good. Music was way too loud. Seemed like it was trying yo be New Orleans, which I did not expect or desire. Prices were HIGH. An off night?

First time visiting this restaurant, and was not disappointed!!! Took my wife and 6 year old daughter for a late Valentines Day dinner, and it was absolutely perfect. Some people left google reviews about value and how it was overpriced. But in the end do not let reviews like that sway you cause everything from the food the drinks to the dessert were top notch! Get the lamb chops and bread pudding and leave happy 😁

Just make sure that if the waiter doesn't ask you how you like your meat you let them know...

The food was very underwhelming. Our drinks did not come till after the main dish was served. My steak was served with frozen french fries. My wife had to send back her fish plate because it was overcooked and was smelly. It took them 25 minutes to get her plate back I had finished eating. It still was overcooked, but was a bit better but I will not return to that restaurant. It is highly overrated. The areas in is nice, but the restaurant is highly overrated. Like I said, I will never return to that restaurant.
