Da Emma is a hidden Italian gem located right in downtown Montreal. Since the restaurant itself is located below street level, many people pass by this little trattoria every day without realizing it. The only sign for it is painted on a nearby brick wall in black and white and consists entirely of a downward pointing arrow and the word "Emma". It is because it is a little hard to find that diners feel like they are in on a secret not everyone knows about.Inside, Da Emma goes with a sleek and modern style complete with dark wood tones and white tablecloths. The menu consists of both classic and modern Italian plates. Some of the intricate plates that the kitchen puts out include fettucini with porcini mushroom and truffle, veal breast in rosemary sauce, four cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce and house made meatballs in marinara.

I remember the first time we ate at Da Emma 20yrs ago, the food was wonderful. I still remember how delicious everything was so I decided to make reservations for my husband’s birthday. It was disappointing, I even cancelled dessert. We shared the meatballs as an entree and it was tough, didn’t fall apart like we remembered. My husband had the oven roasted lamb and it was also tough, it didn’t fall off the bone at all. Very disappointing considering how expensive our meal was. We don’t mind paying if it’s worth it but sadly, it wasn’t.

Good ambience. Food was delish...great service overall. We had an early dinner and soon the place was getting more clients. That did not change the ambience

Very disappointing experience. Food was lackluster. Bruschetta and the veal were so salty they were almost inedible. Service was good, but nothing special. I very much wanted to love it based on the great reviews, but will not be going back.

Our server was amazing and highlighted our experience. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed dining in this underground spot with a special history.

Underwhelming, forgettable experience for the price. I knew to adjust my expectations when they brought out the packaged butter. I tried the agnolotti al ragù, which tasted fine.
