El Centro brings REAL Mexican cuisine to Boston!

Walking into El Centro is like walking into your grandmother’s kitchen, that is, if your grandmother’s kitchen is in Hermosillo, Mexico. Chef/Owner Allan Rodriguez has brought his version of Mexico to Boston, complete with real family recipes, house-made tortillas, spiced sangrias and authentic micheladas.

A warm, inviting space, El Centro’s walls are home to authentic Mexican artwork, original photographs and handmade decorations from Mexico.

If you want to be able to hear conversation at your table and talk without losing your voice, I'd recommend arriving earlier rather than later. However, the food is amazing, and our server was FABULOUS! Super helpful and accommodating. I especially loved the tableside guac (freshly made right at your table). It was the creamiest, most delicious guacamole I've ever had. Totally worth the splurge. Also this seems to be a very popular place to celebrate birthdays, and why not? You get to wear a gorgeous sombrero from Mexico. It just makes it a little more fun! Highly recommend El Centro.

I made a reservation and upon arrival we were given a prix fixe menu. There was no indication there would not be a regular menu tonight so we left without eating. The waitress told us “it was all over our social media page we have a prix fixe menu tonight” —well I’m sorry but I don’t follow El Centro on my social media so how else was I supposed to know that? We went next-door to blue ribbon barbecue and had extremely delicious meal and amazing service.

Had a holiday special menu which was unknown to me when I made the reservation. Food was good but too much. Just felt rushed by our waitress - She never explained that we could get one of the special dinners and share it . But watched as others did just that. Will try once more on a regular evening.

Our group of 5 enjoyed our meals very much. At the end, we were surprised with churros and a birthday candle! We will definitely be going back!

My experience is quite the same as others have noted. Nice atmosphere, good location and decent food but really bad service. Was there on a Friday night and place was almost empty yet about ten service people just hanging out around a long table looking bored and unhappy. Since our waiter literally disappeared mid meal (never to be seen again) we had to constantly wave someone over to get another drink, order, or get check. No one welcomed us as we entered restaurant nor acknowledged us as we left. It's too bad because food was quite good but place is obviously poorly managed. Unhappy employees, dead poinsettias in mid January, and missing host/hostess shows plays is poorly managed. And fact that place was empty on a Friday night tells me this place will be gone by end of year.

We tried El Centro for the first time on Friday night. We were looking for a fun Mexican restaurant for family dining. The place is nice and casual. The food is average - not bad, but nothing special. I thought our server was engaged but not overly helpful. Overall, this is an average type of place for family dining.

Sitting at the bar was great. The tables were crowded and very loud. I’d sit at the bar every time.

This place is great for a quick bite, or a group outing. The service was excellent, and both the food and drink menu have numerous options. We will definitely be repeat customers.
