Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Chicago's go-to destination for steak, seafood, and live-fire cooking. The restaurant is modeled after Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s fascination with Argentinean asados: traditional backyard barbecues surrounding the flame. A 12-foot custom-built grill serves as the centerpiece for this downtown asado which embraces South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, and of course, steak. The hearth also serves as the heart of the restaurant’s experiences such as dining at the Hearth Table.

Join us for happy hour at our cocktail bar, featuring signature cocktails and fiery bar bites or indulge in a glass of wine from the country’s only South American wine list. No matter what you choose, El Che brings the heat seven nights a week.

Good Trouble was inspired by the brand owner’s vision to spur social change through great bourbon and good conversations. Be part of that conversation as we explore four wood-fired courses with our friends at El Che. Each course will be paired with a cocktail and you'll be able to hear some incredible stories from our founder and distiller, Dee Robinson.

El Che is a warm and very inviting restaurant. We had excellent service. The bone marrow appetizer was delicious…heads up the portion size for this app is enormous! Our steaks were good but nothing special. Definitely better steaks to be had in Chicago. The wine list was interesting and varied within the parameter that they are all selections from South America. Gelato was a lovely and delicious end to our dinner.

We were running behind due to the parade of lights and Ivan made sure to graciously adjust or reservation which I know isn’t always easy. Upon arrival we were seated immediately and well taken care off by all members of the service team. Food was excellent, prepared as requested and served hot. Couldn’t ask for a better dining experience!

Thanks for rating us 5 stars, Kyle! We received numerous calls about the traffic due to the lighting ceremony, and we thank you for sticking it out to come and dine with us. We can't wait to share your kind words with Ivan! Please come dine with us again soon and let us know a few of your favorite dishes! Best, The El Che Team

The ambiance is very nice the food is very much overpriced & overrated by paid social media influencers. My prawn were bland & taste like charcoal. My salad & french fries were very good. The fries are the absolute best item on the menu. They don’t need any condiments at all. Also, I purchased a bottle of the Malbec/merlot blend. If I’m in the area & can sit at the bar for happy hour I’d come back for fries & a glass of wine. Dinner for 2 was $300 for fries, steak, & prawns. FYI that did include the bottle of wine. Super saddened by all the hype.

Thanks for the feedback, Phycheena! We're super excited you enjoyed our Beef Fat Fries and a bottle off our South American wine list, but disappointed that you felt your experience didn't match the hype. Happy Hour is our way of extending some love to our bar team who provide the same level of expertise and care as our table service team. We're happy to offer it Sunday through Friday every week. We hope you can join us at the bar another night soon. Let us know which bottle you enjoyed on your last visit and we'll give you some great recommendations for something new! Best, The El Che Team

Went for my birthday ambiance was nice music was a tad bit loud we ordered a bunch of different items, empanadas 🔥 oysters were decent, chorizo a little under cooked. The chinese sweet potatoes 🔥 salad was good broccolini was salty, the mushroom polenta nothing to write home about . Ordered the prime New York asked for medium rare was over cooked a bit tough not enough enough seasoning , was a disappointing for the cut of meat and price!! You live you learn 6.8

Our server (Scott) didn’t check up on us but was very attentive to the other tables. Didn’t ask us how the food was , my bf had to get someone else’s attention to ask to get the steak cooked more. When the busser took our food to box it up the server just dropped off dessert menus and didn’t say anything just walked away. The food runner/ busser was actually a lot better . I wish the tip went to him. And I wish I got his name.
