I came for brunch and had a great time!! We did the bottomless that includes an entree and bottomless drinks for 90 mins. The food was absolutely delicious! The best brunch burger I’ve ever had. The service was great, our waitress kept our drinks flowing. The only things is the noise level was soo loud. You could barely hear the people at the table talking. It could be where we sat and the restaurant has high ceilings. I highly recommend and I will definitely be going back.

Fantastic late night dinner at Essex Bar! Yellowtail Crudo was beautiful and a refreshing start to a wonderful meal, and Duck Pasta was perfectly prepared. Desserts, especially the flourless chocolate cake were standouts. Wife had the bone-in strip steak, which was huge and flavorful. Nice selection value wines. Will be back.

Table wasn’t ready when we showed up, had to wait 10 min for our table despite a reservation for 8 people. Messed up our order—portions were also hilariously small considering it’s known for being able to host large parties. When the mains came out, they forgot one of them so we awkwardly sat around while we waited for the last one to show up. Took us forever to get the check.

Went for Sunday brunch. Lively (pretty loud) atmosphere with a DJ playing fun music. They didn’t have any nondairy milk for my coffee which was a bit of a bummer. They brought out two complimentary rolls which was a nice touch and would have been good if they weren’t really cold. Not sure where they were kept—in the fridge? The granola on the yogurt parfait was essentially savory—very weird but the rest was good. French toast was kind of strange too—seemed like they used multigrain bread for it. Service was good. Not sure if I would return.

NYC Restaurant Week The evening’s scene stealer was The Old Fashioned cocktail. The applewood smoke gave it a unique touch of mystery and an extra taste dimension. Don’t miss it. I had two. What a way to kick off the evening. It surprised the three of us how well executed the non-meat starters were. The comforting White Bean soup and the flavor-rich Artisanal Burrata impressed us the most. Should we have selected the Baby Beets or Kale Caesar salad over the St. Louis style pork ribs? Perhaps because the latter, while not bad, veered towards the ordinary. For us, the mains at Essex were not its strongest suit. While the Tagliatelle pasta with duck & mushroom ragù served with fresh parmesan was deelish, it was dry and arrived on the lukewarm side. Skip the Grilled Angus NY strip steak….the quality was not up to par. Given how well they did with the vegetarian starters, it might have been wiser to go with their vegetarian main of Leeks confit with Cauliflower Tabbouleh, rather than the steak. The flourless chocolate cake and coconut custard pastel were fine endings to our 3-course dinner. Wines by the glass offerings didn’t disappoint: the Chardonnay & Cab Sauvignon, both from Napa Valley and the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo were more than satisfactory. The dim lighting & quiet setting (there was only one large group of diners in the room that Wednesday) made for a relaxed ambience. Service was friendly and adequately attentive though the server could have been more knowledgeable.
