Located just outside Chichester, at the heart of the Goodwood Estate, Farmer, Butcher, Chef celebrates the beef, pork, and lamb reared at Goodwood Home Farm. Aptly named, the farmer, butcher, and chef collaborate to discuss the available cuts of meat, which are featured in our hearty Butcher’s Boards and a constantly changing seasonal menu.

Awarded two AA Rosette's, it has a relaxed atmosphere with quintessentially British interiors by Leveson Design. With a bar and beautiful courtyard where you can enjoy live music and BBQs throughout the summer months, alongside a full calendar of events, the restaurant is a space to enjoy exceptional food with friends, family and dogs are very welcome too.

Goodwood has been farmed by the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years. Susan, Duchess of Richmond was one of the Soil Association’s earliest members. Her belief in organic food and animal welfare were instrumental in Goodwood Home Farm becoming the first 100% organically fed dairy in the country.

Our experience of Farmer, Butcher, Chef was rather mixed. Some of the dishes, such as a lamb neck main, were well thought out and delicious, while others, such as my partner's pigeon starter, were ill conceived, rather tough and very disappointing. In particular, we thought there was a lack of attention to detail for a fine dining restaurant - for example, an otherwise excellent crab starter was let down a cold and watery accompanying bisque. The wines were also very overpriced in my opinion, with our £40 bottle of white tasting less refined than most £8 supermarket purchases. We were also overcharged by £10 for this lacklustre wine but fortunately I noticed when we settled the bill. In summary, I'd say it was a bit of a curate's egg - ie good in parts - but not very good value for money and we wouldn't be tempted to go back.

Attended as a group of 6 for Sunday lunch, 2 beef 3 lamb and 1 pork. All meat's cooked to perfection and the accompanying veg all cooked well and delicious we all agreed it was the best Sunday lunch out we have had. We shared two desserts which were tasty. Good choice of drinks and everyone happy with their choice. The restaurant was busy but the service was attentive, food piping hot and nothing too much trouble. Well done.

Saturday lunch dining here is not to be recommended. No one else was in the dining room, each course option was a seafood, meat, or vegetarian dish, just three dishes per course. Prices were the same for evening dining, but without the choice of dishes. Not the meat experience I was expecting. Service was good, although obviously the staff were not stretched. Overall very disappointing and expensive given the menu. I give this experience one star,

So the restaurant is part of the Goodwood Hotel and Estate. I have stayed here many times. The hotel is cosy and comfortable. The estate has its own farm. However non meat eaters are only tolerated here. There is one fish option and one non meat option. Nothing on the menu is marked vegetarian or vegan so assume nothing. Waiting staff will offer allergens but really dont know what all the ingredients are. The butter brought with the bread has beef dripping in it. Most of the sides have meat in them eg bone marrow mash. The description of the fish dish included 'bone sauce'. When I queried this it was 'fish stock' and not said marrow bone. So opted for the dish which seemed to be made of vegetables. It was a sweet potato wellington. Was the pastry made with lard? I will never know. First extra ingredient mentioned on the menu was 'acorn' - acorn? Don't pigs eat acorns, didn't realise humans could eat them. This manifested as some sort of whipped concoction. Veg on side included kale and chestnuts. Plate was very hot. I have a photo - all looked appealing. Started to eat. All seemed well, however soon apparent that the slice of wellington must have been frozen and reheated as the centre of it was stone cold. The reheating just penetrating the outside. Drew this to the attention of waiting staff who apparently checked what I alleged before asking kitchen to replace. The replacement Wellington was hot through and quite tasty. However no replacement decoratively arranged veg on the side just some undercooked 'slabs' of kale. My glass of Malbec helped to wash it all down. So on to dessert. Again no indication of veggie or vegan. I chose something ressembling creme brulee which hardly covered the bottom of the dish and was served with sorbet which I wouldnt have chosen - having experience butternut squash sorbet already! Again description on menu lacking. Dessert was removed from bill (I didn't ask for this). Such a shame. Was going to book table for six in December ...

Both myself and my friend had an amazing meal at the butcher farmer chef and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the place and we will be back again.

Honestly the best roast dinner I’ve ever had. I wanted to order a second one but I would have exploded. 5 stars does not do justice to the quality of the food.
