   My husband and I went to Firefly Grill for their Valentine’s Day tasting menu. We’ve been to Firefly a handful of times before tonight for their regular menu, but we were eager to try their tasting menu. They offered a 4, 6, or 8 course option with the option to add wine parings as well. Everything tasted amazing and the wine parings were wonderful. I would love to see them do other tasting menus from time to time.

   The Valentine’s Day menu never fails to impress. The Firefly always exceeds expectations. The staff, the facility, the food, all are second to none. Being able to have world class dining in what many would consider a culture desert is such a blessing

   This was our second time eating at Firefly and it was even better than the first. The restaurant is gorgeous, inside and out. The service was excellent. While I wish I could recall our server’s first name, I do recall that his last name was Fourbes. He was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and took excellent care of us. While the restaurant is over an hour away from our home, we will be coming back soon. It was that good!

   Sitting at one of the best bars in mid America, I enjoyed the cocktails, crab purse appetizer, and the shrimp risotto. The bartenders were excellent. Top notch experience worth the drive from St Louis MO.

   Our server Ean was AMAZING! Funny, lighthearted, kind. He knew the menu well and was an absolute pleasure.

   We detour through Effingham every chance we get and have enjoyed the restaurant for years. Noticed how prices have creeped up a big notch but that’s inflation unfortunately. What bothered me this time is that most everything comes with only a side of French fries or mashed potatoes. That’s a starchy high carb food and it’s a problem because the restaurant doesn’t allow substitutions, even for a small upcharge. So, you have to pay full price for a big serving of vegetables or salad. Not a good value, and not recognizing the fact that starchy foods contribute to and exacerbate, diabetes, growing epidemic. The other thing that bothered me is there was an unexplained 5% service charge added to the bill, which I’m then supposed to tip on top of. Do I tip 15% to the 5%, or 20% on top of it?

    Food is way overpriced. Local franchises offer the same quality of food for much, much less. Menu is somewhat limited for a high-end restaurant. Service is excellent and prompt.
